A Happy Easter for Ming   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #64 of 603 |
Easter was going to be a falorn time for us at SAA...Jolly's were about to start
their new season in Wellington. Despite the sometimes rude and often ignorant
staff at certain shops, SAA succeeded in getting around 50% of the posters in
Wellington, Dawley, Oakengates and Donnington removed, many shop owners
expressing utter horror at the stories of Jolly's bear. Shops are offered
incentives by the circus to put posters up (free tickets, normally) and do not
often explain that they are an animal circus. In order to provide incentives
the reverse, some of the shops who removed the poster without question received
a special vegan easter egg from SAA...our thanks for their comapssion.

Then, matters took a fantastic turn. Local residents, clearly outraged that a
circus like this should be in their area, demanded the landowener drop
him....and he did, just days before the first performance. Despite appeals on
BBC Radio Shropshire and in the Shropshire Star, it looks like the season will
be a week shorter for Jollys. What a Happy Easter for the animals.....though in
their probably cramped and seemingly untidy winter quaters, the happyness will
be bittersweet.

Unfortunately, our job is not over. Local media gave a lot of press to this
circus, and we must ensure it does not happen again. Please, do the following:

Email Jim Hawkins (a Radio Shropshire presenter who broadcast appeals for
Jolly's) politely explaining why the BBC should not do this
jim.hawkins@...

Email the Shropshire Star congratulating the residents who put up a stand and
asking everyone to avoid the circus if it does come to town
starmail@...

Remember, this press is given because Jolly's do not advertise that they are a
controversial circus. Please be polite, but firm. The media, and local
businesses, must not promote cruelty.

Keep asking businesses to remove posters...remember the circus will be back next
year, if they can!!

PS: If you can come to Dudley Zoo on Easter Monday, please let us know. We
need peopel if only for a few hours!
