Today, Radio 4's You & Yours featured a report on animal rights 'extremism'.
During the debate 'Science' Minister Lord Sainsbury said:
a.. That people who supported animal rights street stalls may be supporting
terrorism
b.. That animal testing was vital for medical work
c.. That no scientist wants to do work which isn't nescerssery
d.. That we (Britain) have the most vigerous regulation system in the world
e.. That in a civilised society scientists should not be harassed
f.. That 'websites' (it was clearly SHAC & SPEAK he was referring to) should
be closed
He made no mention of
a.. The amount of money animal rights stalls plow into campaigning and raising
awareness of the fraud in vivisection#
b.. That most animal rights organisations are very careful not to support
illegal protests
c.. That animal testing produces often unreliable and in fact misleading
results
d.. That many scientists, such as Dr Jerry Vlsak, Dr Greek or Dr Coleman have
challenged any scientist to debate the merits of vivisection, but non has come
forward
e.. That HLS along with other labs have been shown to blantaly flaunt
regulation and that the inspectorate are often amde up of ex-vivisectors
f.. That in our 'civilised' society one laboratory can kill 500 animals a day,
employ convicted sex offenders and can be bailed out by the government who use
tax payers money to ensure it continues
g.. That Tony Blair, the local MP for Huntingdon and other political leaders
have REFUSED to debate the issue publically, but have produced regulation to
stop peacful protests.
Further to this, the presenter asked what appeared to be loaded questions. No
animal rights person was offered a chance to say anything in responce to this.
