Hi, i think it was something to do with the idea of the occult being
used for both good and evil and that, therefore, white-witches are
good. not sure i entirely agree with this thing cos there's been other
fantasy fiction written before (including set in the "real world") and
noones gone awol about that (except for the philip pullman series but i
wasn't too keen on them either).
maybe they're scared that your readers will be lured away from their
christian faith BECAUSE they are the children's best sellers at the
moment and all the hype about it etc.
I think some of the evil characters are somewhat over the top for the
age group they are aimed at (eg the dementors) but they are described
as evil. so that's not it.
the books are used by new age people to "convert" young people, maybe
cos of all the hype. i do think that the books are not as brilliant as
all the hype makes them out to be. there has been better literature
written for this age group!
will do more research to continue this line of debate!
