Ultimate Tournament Check List!   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #117 of 247 |

Hey guys, this is mainly for the freshers as I don’t remember a year when everyone has remembered everything they need for their first tournament. So here it is, the Ultimate list for what to take to an Ultimate tournament.

Kit: This one’s a no brainer really. Forget it and you’re a bit screwed.

Appropriate footwear: If it’s indoors then bring indoor shoes, if it’s outdoors then bring boots.

Appropriate Protective gear: Are you playing indoors? If you are and you’re planning on sliding around the floor a lot then knee pads might be a good idea. If you’re playing an outdoor tournament in the howling wind and rain then it might be an idea to take an all-weather jacket.

Personal First Aid: Inhalers for any asthmatics, medication if you take any, and a general supply of plasters and ibuprofen would be advisable.

PLENTY OF WATER: This is essential. Ultimate is a tiring and physical sport and your body loses a lot of water whilst you are playing. Replenish it with a generous amount of water in a bottle you can refill all weekend long.

Food:   Salty: As well as losing water while you sweat your body also loses salts which it is again essential to replenish. Crisps, sandwiches etc are good for this.

Carbohydrates: Pasta is a great one for tournaments. Carbohydrates are what your body converts into energy in the long run so a healthy dose is recommended. If you have a Tupperware, make some pasta the night before add some sauce and don’t forget a fork to eat it with.

Sugars: For the instant burst of energy, a packet of Haribo suffices. Don’t overdo it on the sugars though.

Sports drinks: Lucozade, Powerade or your own personal choice of sports drinks are all recommended but not essential for a weekend long tournament.

Breakfast: Cereal bars or something to get you going in the morning.

Sleeping Bag (and roll mat if you own one): You will be staying on someone else’s floor, it is unlikely to be too comfortable or warm if you are just sleeping in your clothes.

Towel and wash stuff: There will be showers at the venue and you won’t be too popular on the minibus or at the party if you smell because you forgot your towel.

Toothpaste, toothbrush etc…: Pretty self explanatory.

Change of clothes: again this is pretty self explanatory.

Camera: Only bring if you wanna take photos/videos. Keep an eye on it.

Money: Usually we will have a meal on the Saturday night before going to the party. This will also be used for meals in services on the way home etc. Depending on your hunger and thirst I’d say about £20 for the weekend should suffice. Remember tournament fees as well but obviously your first away tournament is free.

Something to amuse yourself on the journey: A book, an mp3 player, even some work for your degree. Whatever helps you pass the time is a good idea.

If I have forgotten anything please let me know.
