Hey To make up for the ridiculous weather and complete lack of draininage at widelane tonght. Its been suggested we use our sunday training session. If people can make it can they email me so we can judge interst, if people arn't bothered then we can let those who are coming over from dorchester and Portsmouthknow not too. I think this is a realy good chance to maximise our training time and improve individually. We can drill or just play games. again if you can come and have a preference let me know. Cheers guys and girls Chester

The team list so far for the inaugural Women's London Winter League, which will be held on Sunday 15th November is:
Jane Megan Anna Maria Cat S Perks Laura (with Lucy, Suzy and Pip to confirm).
If anyone else is interested in playing, then please get in touch
with me ASAP. There is no clash with any student events, so we hope to
hear from some more interested faces...
This side of Christmas we have two Thursday night Release sesssions at Wide Lane where the women will get the use of a full size pitch - so if you can only make a couple of sessions, these are the two sessions to aim for!! There are no womens-only astro sessions being run before Christmas, so attendance at these sessions is really important.
They will be on: Thursday 12th November: 8-10pm Thursday 10th December: 8-10pm
All women (regardless of experience) are welcome and encouraged to attend - we will have Aidan and Nick helping with coaching. We will certainly be making the most of the big pitch (and grass!) by having lots of game time :)
Release have entered a team into women's winter league 1, taking place in London (usual venue, Richardson Evans Memorial Playing Fields) on Sunday November 15th. More details will be sent as I get them.
This is in 2 weeks time, so quite late notice - therefore if you are interested in playing please could you email me (ultimatejenstar@...) or drop me a text (07903753531) asap. All women are welcome to play! This will be a great opportunity for us to play (on grass, yey!) against some good opposition, it's the first year a women's WL has been running and it would be great if we could support this.
Looking forward to hearing from you, Captain Jen

Skunks Beginner's is fast approaching and I need definite answers regarding hosting. If you are able to host, please message or text me with which nights you are able to host (F/S or both) and how many people you think your house can take (i.e. how many teams!).
If you haven't thought about this, ask your housemates if they mind some people crashing on their sofas for the weekend, and maybe let the team sleep in your room too while you crash with a housemate. Chances are you'll get some nice free stuff out of it (usually drinks, sweets, chocs etc) and you'll make some friends in the bargain.
*Remember, we rely on other team's hospitality when we go away for tournaments, so we need to do the same to ultimate cheap.
Have a think and get back to me.

Hey Mike pretty much leaves this weekend. So we are going to go out for drinks tomorrow night (friday) at 8 in the hobbit to celebrate. Would be really good for as many people as possible to come and say farewell to him and his sidearm.

The new term is fast approaching so it’s time to get up to speed on the upcoming year. READ THIS PLEASE.
FRESHERS WEEK
A busy and important week – the Bunfight is on Wednesday afternoon and this is where we recruit new Skunks. The committee is expected to attend and we will also be asking a few other members of the club to be there to help attract new members. In the past showing some footage of Frisbee games on laptops has been quite successful and we have used an online sign-up sheet to get e-mail addresses, I expect we’ll do a similar thing this year.
On Saturday we’ll be having our demo games in the Old Sports Hall, between 11-12 and 3-4. Again, all the committee will be there to introduce themselves and tell everyone a bit about the club, and we need as many experienced players as possible there to play in the show games and help the committee talking to new Skunks.
SKUNKS BEGINNERS
The annual Skunks Beginner’s and Warm-Up tournament is happening on the 24/25th October at Fleming Park. Unlike last year, where we only had a beginner’s division, there will be an 8-team experienced division running alongside it. Standard indoor tournament, with a meet and greet on Friday night in the Hobbit and a party on the Saturday night at the Hobbit and Jesters.
WOMEN’S REGIONALS
We have also been successful in securing the bid for Women’s Indoor Regionals on 7/8th November, at the same venue. Hopefully Skunks women will secure their third successive victory. We will need as many Skunks as possible to help run this tournament (as I will be playing in it and therefore not particularly useful!).
To make these tournaments a success, we rely on Skunks offering living room space to visiting teams. Start thinking NOW if you’d be willing to host a team – it’s a great opportunity to meet some new people and you’ll end up with some free stuff – usually drinks, sweets and sometimes a funny toy. Have a chat with your housemates and see if they’re happy about it – it is sometimes worth staying with one of your housemates in their room and letting Frisbee players sleep in your room too.
If you are able and willing to host a team for either or both of these events, please let me know as soon as you are sure – I also need to know which nights (both nights or just Saturday) and what the maximum number of people you can host is.

I have until this Friday to confirm with the TD of tour 3 that we are playing or pulling out from this tournament - at the moment we have 9.5 players:
Caroline
Suzy (one day)
Laura W
Cat S
Lauren B
Jess
Hannah
Lucy
Sally
Jayne
...with this number I will probably pull the team :(. I would be much happier taking at least 2 more ladies. So please get in touch asap if you can play or know any women who may want to join us in Cardiff on the 8th/9th August! It would be a real shame if we couldn't scrape together a team for nationals as we have done really well so far this year.
At the moment things are not looking good for tour 3 - the number in the diary has gone down significantly and there are now only 8 people signed up to play!! It's nationals!!
I'm hoping this is just because some people haven't thought about signing up yet? Anyway...if we want a team in we need more players, so please sign up in the diary or let me know either way if you can play asap.
So far signed up is: Caroline Laura W Suzy (1 day only) Cat S Lauren B Jess Hannah Lucy
It's in Cardiff on the 8th/9th August by the way - free camping :)
Please also remember we have a training day and social this Saturday! Jen x
Please read and get in touch if you're interested. This is a great opportunity to play at a high standard at the most exciting domestic event of the year!

Worryingly, we’ve only got 20 people signed-in to play at Open Nationals on the 8/9 August. We have two teams entered, but clearly not enough names on the list to field both. Please check what you’re doing and sign up in the diary. We will be black listed by the UKU if we are forced to withdraw the Second team. We absolutely don’t want that to happen.
You can’t miss this event. Not only is it the last major tournament of the season, it’s blumen Nationals! The pinnacle of the season!

Hi ladies!
Next Saturday (25th July) Release are running a training day at the Southampton Sports Centre (SSC) and I am organising a separate womens session. Exact times/details to follow, but likely to start at 10am and finish at 4pm.
This is a great opportunity to get some training in before the next tour or to help keep fit... There will be lots of drills and gameplay - to make the most out of the session please let me know if you have a specific skill/tactic that you would like to work on and hopefully this can be incorporated into the plan! The plans flexible, so the aim is to get the most out of the time we have. It'll be the last time we can train as a womens team before Tour 3 so i hope that those playing in Cardiff at least will be able to make it. The session is welcome to all levels of experience and ability.
Thanks to those who have already signed up in the diary (or have let me know they are unavailable) , but more women are needed - so please get invlolved! And to follow our fun day of frisbee we're also planning a social in Southampton for Lauren's Birthday, even more reason to come!!

Just a reminder of some upcoming training events for July.
This Thursday's training is cancelled but Sunday (19th) is on.
The following weekend is a squad specific training day on the Saturday (25th), followed by a team social that evening, and normal club training on Sunday 26th. This will be highly beneficial for anyone hoping to play at Nationals on 8/9th August.
Keep checking the website for details (www.ltdrelease.co.uk), and get yourself subscribed to the e-group (e-mail a member of the committee for info if you're not sure how to do this).
See you soon,
Lauren x

Any Skunks who are aged 21 and over, have been driving for at least three years and hold a clean licence are eligible to drive minibuses for the club to help us get to and from tournaments. This really helps the club out.
As an extra incentive, we only charge drivers £5 instead of the normal £20 as tournament fee.
If you're interested, applications for minibus tests can be found outside the AU office in the SUSU building. Get in touch with the committee for more information.

This weekend is one of only 2 weekends this summer that we will be running team-specific training for tour. Ladies - we need more of you to sign up for this!! We had a fantastic first tour, but if we want to break into the top 8 then the more training we can have together the better. So far, only the following people have signed up:
Caroline Suzy Laura Cat S Lauren B Jess Hannah
This isn't enough to run a decent training weekend. SO...please sign in/out or let me know about this weekend by Thursday at the very latest, as we will need to plan. It will take place in Southampton at the SSC, alongside the open training
weekend, more info to come. Its open to all women, regardless or ability/experience.

Dear Britdisc and in particular Skunks of all ages,
The southampton skunks are a highly established university team founded in 1979 and who would have guessed 30 years from that point they would still be chasing plastic all around the common. In order to commemorate this momentous occasion we will be running a one day hat tournament followed by a social in the evening on saturday the 13th June. It is open to all skunks new and old and if you would like to apply please send an email with the following details to (smatt_god@...):
Name:
Ability level (1-5: 1 being skunk fresher, 5 being A-Tour Standard):
Year you became a skunk:
Dietary Requirements:
Whether you require accomodation for the Friday or Saturday night:
Contact details:
The price for the tournament will be £15 but will include a playing shirt, tournament fees, snacks (e.g bananas) on the day. The meal in the evening will be at la Tavernetta in southampton (http://www.latavernetta.co.uk/) where we have the top floor booked. The tournament itself will be held at Wide Lane Sports facilities (the venue of the European Ultimate Championships '07).
Hope to be hearing from you soon,
Smatt

Unofficially ranked 12th out of the 64 competitive uni ultimate teams in the country. Pretty good, and a reflection of the strength of our club as a whole: not only the open, women's and mixed first teams, but the second teams we've been fielding. Second only to No Frills from the Western region. Well done everybody!
To: uniultimate@yahoogroups.com; britdisc@... From: pcyamsb@... Date: Thu, 4 Jun 2009 16:45:46 +0100 Subject: [uniultimate] The University Season 08/09
Dear BD and UU,
In this short break between the Mixed and Open Tours, I thought now was a good time to reflect on what was a very busy University season. 64 university clubs competed at 21 tournaments for 6 titles over a 6 month period.
The Champions in their respective divisions are;
University Open Indoor Champions: Edinburough University's Ro Sham Bo University Womens Indoor Champions: Edinburough University's Ro Sham Bo University Mixed Indoor Champions: Warwick University's Bears University Open Outdoor Chamions: Warwick University's Bears University Womens Outdoor Champions: Sussex University's Mohawks University Mixed Outdoor Champions: Warwick University's Bears
Cangratulations to all these teams for their successes this season.
But what of those who didn't win anything this year, where did they come? How strong is your University on a national level? Whats happened to the team you were a big part of while you were at university?
I think it would be interesting to introduce a points system, much like tour, for the university season. I've done this using a slightly modified version of the tour points system so coming in the top 8 at a tournament is always worth the same but following points are weighted depending on the size of the tournament. Coming 11th at a 24 team tournament is worth more than a 12 team tournament. This rewards teams finishing lower down in larger regions. Regionals are also worth half the points of a national competition.
The main reason behind this unofficial league is to highlight the difference between University and most Tour Clubs. We train as large mixed squads all year long so success in any division is representative of the club as a whole not just the players in the team. I think the performance of your club over the whole season should be rewarded. This doesn't take away from the Champions in each division, it just highlights those teams that compete well but just never reach that top spot.
However, it does have its flaws. Due to the tournament distribution, some teams couldn't make certain tournaments due to exams or other commitments so the results aren't categorical. I would like to think if such a points system were to be introduced in the future, the tournament calendar could easily be changed to accommodate all exams, every region would hold a regionals for all divisions and teams would also be encouraged to compete in all divisions.
So, without further ado, below are the league results for the 08/09 Season;
Place Team 1 Bears 2 Strange Blue 3 Mohawks 4 Ro Sham Bo 5 Flatball 6 Halcyon 7 Too Many Pies 8 Positive Mojo 9 Sublime 10 Random Fling 11 No Frills 12 Skunks 13 Haze 14 Uriel 15 DUF 16 Shooting Stars 17 Mythago 18 Phat'eds 19 Leeds Jedi 20 Chichester 21 Boogie Knights 22 Far Flung 23 UBU 24 Brunel 25 Thrown 26 Under Cover Lovers 27 Scorpions 28 DiscDoctors 29 Equilibrium 30 BLT 31 Picnic 32 BUF 33 OW! 34 Blaze 35 Aye-Aye 36 Dark Horses 37 ARU 39 The Fish 40 Jesters 41 Hallam 42 Demons Ultimate 43 York Ultimate 44 Disco 45 Fly TnT 46 Skulltimate 47 Hulltimate 48 HU?/Hammers 49 Disc Devils 50 Kent Touch This 51 Mental Discs 52 Dragons 53 Bangor 54 Lincoln 55 Ugly Ducklings 56 Apocalyptic Cows 57 JMU 58 Disciples 59 Trinity 60 Hammer Heads 61 RUF 62 Airwolf 63 Chester 64 Chucks
Any comments or questions would be very welcome.
Cheers,
Matt

Open Tour 1 is in Chiswick and is only 8 days away. We nearly enough for the three teams that we have entered! We're looking for another 8 players - assuming there are no last minute drop-outs. Remember if you're on this list after tomorrow (Sat) and you pull-out, then you are liable to a charge (at the committee's discretion).
Will those people listed below with injuries please confirm directly to me if they are in or out AND also change their status in the diary.
Anyone else wishing to play should sign in to the diary ASAP. Those people without logins should email me directly ASAP.
The final team lists will hopefully be announced on Wednesday. That's after Monday evening's 2nd team training and Tuesday evening's 1st team training sessions.
