Last night at 2300 UTC I made a quick check on MW, and found no carriers. Looks
like the game plays only on northern latitudes.

Often the case, sadly. Being closer to the sea seems to help too. :0( There has been quite a bit of west coast and Prairie reception on MW by UK DXers this...
