Going to record again tonight, ivegot a tape recorder with timer on (Roberts c9950) must sort out the pc to record. Been puttin another ewe up this pm pointing 330degrees its only 20 foot long though, all i could get in that direction. I can get the 25 foot up but that's pointing exactly north.
Just joined the MWC as well, Ive got interference across the tropical bands since returning after easter ! think its from next door. Anyway been meaning to concentrate on MW for a while as Im finding the same stuff on the tropicals.
330 degrees is a waste of time now we are approaching summer. You
would be better with a Latin ewe at around 240 degrees now. The ewe
has a reasonable beamwidth but you are probably too far off-beam if you
are serious about DXing South America on 330 degrees. 270 degrees
would make a better "all rounder".
It will be interesting once Belgium 1512 has left the air for good as
Brazil can appear shortly after 21:00 hours.

Already got an ewe @240 degrees that is what I was using last night. It points out to sea nothing between it and S America basically, there isnt a house in that direction just open water.
Do you think shortening the ewe will make a difference. (The N.American one)
Hopefully will be posting some logs to Skywaves mw more regularly now

Er, really? Nobody asked me.
We are keen to promote the hobby and this has always been 'taken as

something else.

Hi all,
I am looking for a schema of an deltaloop aerial to transmit
on about 1500 khz am with my new to build transmitter on
mediumwave next winter, who have a schema for me ?? or de
messurements of the wire ?

Hi John
cant see the point of yet another really, as this list and MWC cover
the hobby of LW/MW and Tropical bands.
It just makes correlating information more difficult as it is in
diverse locations.
I will stay as I am

I have just been accounting elsewhere for the lack of any MW DX log here
recently.
The reason for this is a poorly 7030. I can listen, but only for as
long as the 7030 allows. Sometimes this is for a few minutes, sometimes
for a few seconds. It is as if someone unplugs the aerial, although
some signal remains. Maybe it is a problem with the pre-amp since
signals become comparable to the -40dB pre-amp setting. I have only
half-heartedly looked into the problem as I anticipate the delivery of
my Perseus soon - in time for the next season I hope.
Regarding what I have 'heard', as opposed to 'identified': Several
Brazilians here and there but none with any great signal; East coast
North America has been reasonable at times, but only the most regular of
regulars.
In conclusion, conditions have not been good, but there has occasionally
been something around worth recording. Sadly, my 7030 has not allowed
me the privilege.
Good DX!
John
Hi John
post it to me and I will send in return Ł10 for the faulty unit and also
repay p&p costs
fair enough?

Gentlemen,
Heard at 00:30 local time, for about a whole hour, at 780 kHz, AM,
Rádio Primero de Marzo from Asunción, the capital of Paraguay.
Think the time in Asunción is an hour less from here and the GMT is
three hours ahead.
Mostly guaranias (the guarania is the Paraguayan music par
excellence) sung in both Spanish (or more appropriately Castilian,
as Spanish is commonly known throughout all South America) and
Guarani (the indigenous language spoken in Paraguay; Paraguay is a
bilingual country so strong is the Guarani culture there).
Insterspersed, also dialogues and interviews with Paraguayans.
Never had heard a Paraguayan station on MW before (only on SW), what
was amazing and noteworthy.
I've already heard, here and there in time, Paraguayan NDBs on LW,
but that's another story.
Clear sound with only occasional fadings, well worth a try to be
heard in the Northern Hemisphere these days: the one who succeeds
will never forget!
Best,
Geraldo

My Perseus arrived much quicker than I had hoped - well in time for the
next MW DX season!
Installation could not have been simpler and everything worked perfectly
on my main PC. My laptops were a little less forgiving though, so I have
to use a slightly older version of the Perseus software (v1.0) on those.
I let Perseus record for me overnight so I could sleep. It is far
simpler than the previous method I used with RecAll-PRO. Recording was
made from 00:30 to 08:30 local time, which used 128GB on my external
300GB USB hard drive. Perseus records in blocks of five minutes and
seamlessly links the individual files together. As it happened, we had a
power cut shortly after 3am which only lasted a few minutes. No files
were damaged despite this!
When playing back, I concentrated my listening on the top and bottom of
each hour. This did not seem to take any longer than it used to when
playing back my single-frequency recordings via Winrad.
Conditions: They weren't great, but I suppose not too bad considering
the time of year. It was nice to hear Globo on 1100 again - the first
time I have heard this since the 80s. There were a few other
unidentified signals:
1050 English - presumed WEPN
1130 Spanish
1330 English & Spanish
1360 English
1380 English
1390 Latin
1470 Probably Vibracion
1499.985 (approximately) Latin
1570 English
Carriers were visible on many other frequencies too. This is another big
bonus with Perseus: You can see the carriers long before the signals are
strong enough to produce audio so you can see, ata glance, which
frequencies you should be listening to. Perseus also lets you tune
around the band while you record, but only within the spectrum you have
chosen. This currently stands at 800kHz. I chose to record 900 - 1700 kHz.
The Perseus is an excellent DX machine and so small you could almost put
it in your pocket. I can't wait to try it out on the moors with a
beverage. Anybody taking a Perseus on a DXpedition would surely return
with a HUGE DX log!
Good DX!

Hello Cyril.
Martin Lynch http://www.hamradio.co.uk are the only UK supplier.
Delivery is typically six weeks but can vary. The cost has just
increased from Ł595 to Ł649. I got mine before the increase.
Nico Palermo, the designer of the Perseus has designed this receiver
for the DXer and actually listens and responds to user's questions on
this Perseus forum. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/perseus_SDR
Currently, the Perseus will allow wideband recordings of up to
800kHz. It is thought that the next software upgrade (free online)
will increase this to at least 1200kHz, which will enable you to
record the entire medium wave band!
Does this sound far fetched? Yesterday, MW DXer Ken Baird in
Ayrshire, sent his medium wave band so I could DX it! I had the
pleasure of literally tuning the band, exactly as it is at his home
QTH. This is what you can do with Perseus! Needless to say, the
file sizes were rather big but they zip up quite nicely with Winrar,
etc.
No need to sit in front of the radio. Do your DXing the following
day or at a more convenient time.
Cheers
John
Hello Cyril.
The Perseus has just increased in price from Ł600 to Ł650 and is only
available in the UK from Martin Lynch. http://www.hamradio.co.uk
Delivery is tyically six weeks.
Currently, you can only record 800kHz of MW spectrum but the next
software revision (free online) is expected to increase this to
1200kHz - enough to record the whole MW band!
How's this for "weird". Yesterday, MW DXer Ken Baird in Ayrshire sent
me his medium wave band! That's right. In other words, he sent me
some files which contained images of the band exactly as it was
received on a particular night up there in Scotland. I just run
these files into Perseus and tune the band in realtime, exactly as if
I were at Ken's QTH. This is what you can do with Perseus.

I discovered something else yesterday too. It does seem to
record the whole medium wave band with its present software version!
I knew that the 800kHz bandwidth was actually larger than this but I
did not think the extra bit was accessible. I discovered it could be
accessed when I accidentally entered a frequency which was outside the
range I had recorded and was able to listen to the channel with no
apparent problems. The reason this extra bit is not included in the
standard playback window is because there is supposed to be some
performance degredation outside this area.Â
As I have said, the next software upgrade may increase the recordable
bandwidth from 800kHz to 1200kHz, and I suspect continuing well beyond
this in the future, who knows. But it looks like there will always be
a bit either side of the range you can access, though with some
reduction in performance.
Hello John
Well the Perseus is an amazing receiver.

Struggling with poor conditions, but it's good to be hearing a few bits
and pieces at this time of year. CHIN has been particularly good at
times over the last three days.
Portuguese stations were heard on several frequencies late on the
20th/early 21st, particularly one on 1190 around 2300.
