Hello,

This is an invitation to subscribe to the Bristol Stop The War Coalition
newsletter, and receive our bi-monthly newsletter, and other occasional emails,
publicising anti-war events and activities in the Bristol area.

To subscribe to our newsletter, with 3,000+ existing subscribers, send a blank

message:

bristolstopthewarcoalition-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

PURPOSE: Bristol Stop The War Coalition was set up in Sept 2001 at the start of
George Bush's 'War On Terror'. Since then, we have campaigned against the
invasions and occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan.

With the support of the British government, these occupations have killed
hundreds of thousands of people, including hundreds of British soldiers.
Regardless of the outcome of elections in the USA, or here in Britain, the 'War
On Terror' will likely continue to be waged as a 'War Without End'.

We believe that the people of Iraq and Afghanistan have the right to determine
their own future without interference from the USA or Britain. We are also
opposed to the threats currently being made to attack Iran and the sanctions
which are impoverishing the Iranian people.

Under the cloak of the 'War On Terror' our Government has attacked civil
liberties at home, effectively criminalising legitimate protest, and created an
atmosphere in which the Muslim community lives in fear.

We look forward to receiving your subscription request.

Thanks.

Dear Sea Mills & Coombe Dingle Community Project

Essential People are a government funded programme set up to help the
unemployed back into work. We do this through a supported learning
scheme; which incorporates a short 15hr free training course, with
some one on one sessions that allows us to tailor each course to the
learners needs. We can guarantee each learner an interview at the end
of the course, along with continued support and job development.

As we are new to Bristol, I'm looking to make links with community
centres and associations to try and reach those in the community that
may be looking for work but not knowing where to start! Essential
People training does not effect any benefits and we work together with
the Job Centre and recruitment agencies in Bristol to offer the widest
range of jobs to our learners.

I have attached some information about the scheme which outlines our
programme. I am aiming to either make contact with community groups
that can refer people to our services or to come in and set up some
posters and leaflets at any community information boards. I would also
be interested in any jobs fairs or community events that we may be
able to partake in or support.

If you feel that your community members may benefit from our services,
please contact me and I will arrange to come and visit.

Many Thanks

*To:* Dear Bristol Neighbourhood Planning Network Member,

You will know that the City Council has published a new Draft SCI for
"consultation" with the public. The original Draft was rejected by the
Planning Inspectorate in August 2006.

You will also know, and may have yourself been involved in three
"workshop" type meetings between reps of neighbourhood planning groups
and other organisations and City Council officers in the 16th February,
8th March and 15th March, designed to involve the community in the
redrafting of the SCI from the word go - in contrast from the first time
around when there was no "frontloaded" community involvement in drafting.

Comments from the public are requested by 17th August 2007. As a result
of the three workshop meetings and several other discussions between the
Network Steering Group - particularly on the question of Ground Rules -
the Steering Group has produced a proposed response to the City Council.

Please find attached in two files :
1. an overall assessment plus
2. a section by section analysis of the new Draft and how far it meets
community concerns from both the original Examination in Public and the
latest workshop meetings.

As the Network Steering Group we propose to send this response in our
names, but we would like to know how far we reflect the wider view of
groups throughout the Network.

*Please would you look at our proposed response and say whether, on
behalf of your group, you:*
**
(a) support it generally as something that can be sent in the name of
the Network, including your own group?

(b) propose to send a separate response on behalf of your own group? By
all means cherry pick our analysis as you wish.
**

Thank you.

Business in the Community has a team of Rolls-Royce plc employees that
are looking to carry out a team challenge in the Sea Mills, Shirehampton
or Lawrence Weston areas.

This can include painting and decorating, gardening, creating a quiet
space or sensory garden, painting playgrounds etc.

There is no cost involved as part of the challenge is for the team to
source all the materials.

Do you know of a community group or voluntary group that would benefit
from this type of input?

Best wishes.

Hello - please join our Direct Action Network.

DIRECT ACTION AGAINST WAR ((DAAW))

Visit us: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/directactionagainstwar
To join our network please send a blank email to the address below & then wait for, and reply to, the confirmation message:
directactionagainstwar-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

KEY NOTE: Messages are sent out in roughly twice weekly digests so as not to overload your inbox.

PURPOSE: As the 'War On Terror' spills over into a war across the entire Middle & Near East, and Horn of Africa, it is well past time to move beyond the comfort zone of A-B demonstrations (important as they are) and towards direct confrontation and opposition to our own illegal military state.

DAAW is a well moderated e-group. Most events or actions which are asking more than just the signing of another petition, or which are more than just another march from point A to point B, will be considered for approval as a form of Direct Action.

The Group Guidelines Can Be Read Here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/directactionagainstwar/message/2575

BACKGROUND: The DAAW message board was initially created in Jan 2003 to protest the arrival of US B52 Bombers to RAF Fairford, U.K, from where Iraq was then carpet-bombed. Since then the message board has become home to a wide range of Direct Action related campaigns and protests.

We look forward to receiving your subscription request.

*Bristol Neighbourhood Planning Network: *
*Campaign for early replacement of the failed SCI*
//
Following on the letters that we hope will have gone from different
groups within the network, we intend to set up a meeting with the
council in early January 2007, to find out exactly what is happening
with the redrafting of the Statement of Community Involvement and when
community groups can expect to be involved.

We hope that, as a result of all your letters, the officers and
councillors will be keen to involve residents' groups more with the
process of drawing up the new SCI before the formal examination process
and far more than was the case the first time around/./

Pending the next meeting of the whole network at the end of January 2007
when we hope to formally elect representatives, the ad hoc working group
that was approved at the Network meeting on 18th November will meet with
the Council. The Working Group is:
Andy King, [Kingsdown Conservation Group];
Alison Bromilow, [Redland & Cotham Amenities Society],
David Farnsworth, [Bristol Civic Society];
Audrey Lennox, [Westbury on Trym Residents Action Group];
Steve Pearce, [Brislington Community Partnership].

*Are you happy to be represented by this group at the fact
finding meeting in January or would you prefer to represent your own
group directly?*

We need a reply to this email to be able to tell the council that we are
representing your group, or to check dates for the meeting with you.

*Please can you let me know asap one way or the other.*

Thank you, Alison Bromilow

Hi,

I am working on a network current affairs documentary series for BBC 2.
I am trying to find parents with children going through the Year 6
transfer process this year. I am keen to talk to parents & children who
are applying to some of the oversubscribed schools in Bristol (Redland
Green & Cotham) and what their plans are if they don't get the school of
their preference.

I have attached a leaflet with my contact details. If you have the time
to distribute these to the members of your group, that would be great.
We are interested in finding a Bristol family that we can follow through
the admissions process for the next few months.

If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to give me a
call - I am happy to send through some leaflets I have printed up if
you'd prefer?

Many thanks

Karen

Do you know of any other group in the area that might be interested in

Could you please reply direct to Toby and copy me, so I know he has had

Paul

I was wondering if I could join the Sea Mills and Coombe Dingle
Community Project and use this as the service element of my Bronze Duke
of Edinburgh award. Is there something/anything that I could do for at
least an hour a week?

My service aim is to encourage service to individuals and the community
and it is based on the belief that members of the community have a
responsibility to each other and voluntary help is needed.

I would need to be assessed with regards to the practical services
undertaken with attention to my effort, commitment and progress.

I am a 14 1/2 year old boy who attends Queen Elizabeth Hospital school
and due to school-work and paper round commitments really wanted my
service section to be locally based and I felt that it was ideal for me
to help out my own community.

I have used my Mum's email address - although I do have my own
fit-toby@... - but it would be easier if you could use my
Mum's please for replying.

Many thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hello all,

I'm afraid I must also send my apologies, from this and all future meetings as
I've been moved across town and am now based at Redland Library. It's been a
pleasure working with you all, and I wish you all the best in future endeavors
in Sea Mills.

My successor (from June 10th) will be Catharine Lake, and I'll pass on the
Action Group details to her.

Fenella from Westbury Library will open up for you all tomorrow, so you
shouldn't be left standing outside. And although she won't be joining the
meeting she's promised to make tea...

Best wishes,

Andrew.
