Hi
My name is Rob Woodburn and I lived for some time in Lux Furlong and I
was wondering if you have any information regarding the bomb that landed
during the war at the junction of Westbury Lane and Elberton Road. If
nothing else, just the date would be very useful.
Kind regards
Rob

Dear Paul,
You may have heard of the project i work on-Bristol Living Rivers. ( see
www.bristol-city.gov.uk/rivers) or not!. I am currently planning a series of
river walks for 2006 including one along the Trym on Sunday 4th June 2006. I am
in contact with Friends of Badock Wood and wondered if Sea Mills & Coombe Dingle

except the date so i am hoping to meet with rep's of interested groups in the
week beginning 30th Jan to start planning the Trek e.g. route, publicity, who to
invite along etc.
Is this something that your group is interested in ?
Other river walks so far are,
9th April New Cut Circuit
14th May Malago Trek
9th July Colliter's Brook ( provisional at the moment)
20th August River Frome

Dear people,
I was at a Housing Strategy meeting on Thursday with Ian Crawley
(Director of Neighbourhood and Housing Services), and he kindly gave me
a set of papers for the Council Cabinet meeting that evening. This
included the full set of papers concerning the proposed redevelopment in
Sea Mills. There are some 20 pages about the scheme.
If anyone wants to look at the papers, do let me know.
All the best,
Paul.

Dear People,
CampaignCreator is looking for people to take part in a pilot scheme.
If anyone feels strongly about an issue, but doesn't know how to go
about campaigning, these people want to hear from you.
They are offering various kinds of advice and support, plus a mentoring
scheme. For more information you can telephone Kevin O'Malley on 0117
922 3285 or email help@...
Also, we have been sent a draft of the City Council's Voluntary Sector
Regeneration Investment Strategy. As a member of the Voscur board, I
have had a chance to make an initial response, but the Council are
looking for feedback from groups like ours. This is really important
for the future funding of groups like ours, so if you can read and
respond, that would be really helpful.
Please let me know if you would like more details.
You can also ask questions about the draft strategy at the Voscur
Assembly on 5 December at the Southville Centre. All welcome.
All the best,
Paul.

Many thanks to everyone who made the Community Project AGM such a
success last night, and for all the hard work that went into preparing
for it.
Three pieces of news:
1. The Community Project is a member of Voscur, Bristol's Council for
Voluntary Services. We are being asked whether Voscur should charge
membership fees, and, if so, what we think would be appropriate.
I have already responded to this, because Crisis Centre Ministries is
also a Voscur member. But I think SM&CDCP should also reply. So, two
questions:
* Does anyone have a view on this subject? If you would like to read
the brief background material,I would be happy to copy it and pass ti on
to you.
* Would anyone like to complete the short questionnaire? Ideally, this
would be one of the Directors...
2. We are also invited to a meeting on 3 November about the Compact and
the future of public sector procurement. There will also be information
about "promoting a competitive, confident and credible social economy"
from the C3 Partnership. Let me know if you are interested.
3. Finally, we have been sent an invitation from "Local Works", the
Campaign for the Sustainable Communities Bill. The meeting will be at
the Elmgrove Centre, on the corner of Redland Road and Elmgrove Road, on
Friday 11 November, from 7:30 - 9:30 pm. If you want directions, do ask me.
According to their web site...
"Local Works is the campaign for the Sustainable Communities Bill. The
Sustainable Communities Bill is a proposed piece of legislation that
will empower local people to improve their local communities.
"The campaign is cross-party and is constantly building up support from
individuals and organisations across the country, the support that will
be needed to see the bill made law! Currently 7000 individuals, 200
local organisations and 235 Members of Parliament support the campaign."
The basic purpose of the bill is to empower local communities - like us!
- to make the decisions that affect us. It is potentially a very
important piece of legislation, but is not likely to grab the headlines.
I have a copy of the campaign broadsheet if you are interested, or you
can download it from www.localworks.org.
All the best,
Paul.

Hello,
Does anyone know if there is an organised volunteer litter collection
coming up?
I remember reading a report about one last year, I think it was in
October. I hope I'm not too late for this year's event, but I haven't
noticed any adverts about it anywhere in Sea Mills.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Simon Gurr.
If you would like to respond to this, please feel free. I'm sure Peter would like to know if you do.

-----Original Message----- From: Peter Wilkinson [mailto:p_wilkinson@...] Sent: 01 May 2005 14:15 To: paul@... Subject: Tree on Sea Mills Lane
Dear Sir,
Towards the end of Sea Mills Lane (no. 79), near the Portway, there is a large Deodar Cedar tree which has stood there for generations. Application was recently made to Bristol City Council for permission to fell the tree, but this was refused. An appeal has now been lodged against that refusal. If, like us, you consider it would be appalling for the appeal to succeed, may we invite you to make representations accordingly. We appreciate that this site is strictly just outside the Sea Mills area, but the tree is of course vsisble from many houses in Sea Mills itself and does form a part of the local scenery. If you feel however that this issue does not form part of your remit, then we apologise for troubling you.
If you do wish to make any representations, then have to be sent to The Government Office for the South West, 1st Floor, 2 Rivergate, Temple Quay, Bristol BS1 6ED. The reference no. for the appeal is SW/THM/8147/783 and the closing date is 26th May.
Thursday 28 April 2005 19:15
- 21:00
This event does not repeat.
Event Location: Sea Mills Community Centre Notes: Local clubs and organisations will be invited to set up stalls, tables etc. At 8:00 pm local matters of concern and interest will be discussed. John Bees and Rosemary Clarks will, we hope, be present to take questions.
Well done to Tim Wallis for getting 2 pictures of himself into the Bristol
Evening Post today!
He can be found as part of the 'Insight' feature on pages 8 & 9 - "What's
going on? We're here to tell you!" about local newsletters in Bristol. The
Community Voice is one of 15 across the city, of which 8 were featured, and
is the only one to tell us that it is distributed by local people.
Congratulations to Tim and the rest of the CV team!
Paul.
