Get good fences and better insurance !
It depends what livestock you are talking about, but I had a terrible experiance
a few years ago when the slaughterhouse allowed a beast to run off, it spent
several months roaming around the county, appearing in people's gardens and so
on. Eventually it had to be shot by a specialist. My insurance paid for all the
problems and wre brilliant with advice and support ! I use the NFU.
There is no way I'd not be insured, although escapes from my actual holding have
been rare and usually into nearby fields rather than roads (eg following storms
where tree have smashed fences down)
Also talk to you field neighbours so if a problem happens they will contact you.
