There was an experiment done (I think it's on Mother Earth News, if you can
be bothered to look for it) about lots of different methods of preserving
eggs, including water glass, grease, etc etc.
The ones that kept best were unwashed, and refrigerated. Not washing was
really significant. They kept easily as long as all the ones that had been
mucked about with, in fact longer iirc, and much more consistently so.
So if you want to store your eggs for a rainy day, don't wash them, and put
them in the fridge! Not at all the same of course, as getting the best from
a fresh egg!
