Hi Kay

I was given your email address by Steve in Y Ffos today. Steve and Karen are
kindly putting me up for a couple of nights as I kayak around britain for
charity. He said you might be interested in joining for a day, or at least
finding out about the trip now that I'm in the area. Aberdaron to Trefor today,
hoping to go to Holyhead tomorrow, then on and around along the north coast of
wales over the next few days.

I'm not sure if you're already aware of our website which gives more information
about the trip, so here it is in case you're not - www.gonepaddling.co.uk

If you are interested, or know anyone else who may be interested in joining or
simply meeting up one evening, feel free to get in touch, either on this email
or call 07515122893 and the support van driver should be able to give more
details about plans. Current driver Nick (who introduced me to Steve and Karen
yesterday) is here until saturday, then someone else will take over.

Hope that's OK - looking forward to hearing back from you.

Best wishes

James

I would be grateful if you could publicise my need for sea kayakers on the 19th
June and the 11th July

colwyn canoe club is hoping to put 15 sea kayakers on the water on these days in
llandudno bay for a couple of hrs to act as safety cover in close to the 300
competitors taking part in the swim element of the triathalon. This event is
growing in stature, and is now established as part of the triathalon calendar.

We are there as safety cover to get in close to swimmers should they be in
difficulty and to then enable the medical ribs to come in and pick them up and
also to keep the swimmers on course to prevent them cutting the corners !!!

if people could respond back colwyn has a 5 sea kayaks that we can put people
into as club boats if your don't have a sea boat otherwise bring your own.
Ideally we need more capable paddlers.

Last year the club was given some tee shirts, and these are normally limited to
participants of the triathalon. You would be needed from around 10ish to miday
and either one or both days would be great.

Looking forward to hearing from people

We are planning a fun weekend for the younger SCC members in early July - most
likely the weekend of the 10th & 11th. It will probably involve some camping, a
campfire bbq - oh and some paddling!

So far, an idea for the venue is Nant Gwynant, but if people would prefer a
suitable campsite next the sea, please get in touch.

I'll send out more information in June when I return, but meanwhile, keep your
diary free for Saturday-Sunday 10th & 11th July.

Any ideas for activities etc much appreciated.

Cheers

Lleyn Peninsula Marine Conservation Society / Keep Wales Tidy /SAC Beach Survey
Weekend 18 th September 2010

The annual MCS / KWT SAC marine litter beach survey / Penrallt camp Site end of
season gathering is planned for the weekend of 18th Sept. 2010 . Fri -Sun or
long weekend either way.

In the spirit of the beach clean / survey event; we aim to target as much of the
northern coastline and more over the weekend. The main beach clean / survey
taking place on Sat.

The Manchester based Firemans band 'Quiet Desperation', who entertained us to
infinity and beyond last year, are again 'game on' for playing at the gathering
in the Dive Inn buildings on the saturday evening. Thank you.

So, there will be music, song, laughter and dance , food and the annual
appearance of 'The Triple Piws Mooses' !.(accompanying the band) If we are
blessed with sunshine again, there will be music and song around a campfire too.

The event will be supported by Keep Wales tidy, the Penllech Coastcare group,
the SAC Marine litter awareness group, Gwynedd council and ofcourse your good
selves. Its aim, apart from having a good time, is to raise money for the Marine
Conservation Society Air Ambulance and other charities.

The aim will be to combine the coast survey with as many coastal outdoor
activities as possible. So it can appeal to hardened beachcombers, land based
walkers and climbers; to on the strandline coaststeering groups, and those
making more of a splash in the water; canoeing, sailing , fisherpobble, dive
groups and so on.

All site fees will be donated to charities; with small additional contribution
to cover music food etc.

thank you again for your support; and hope to see you there. RSVP to book
places. Email if you need updates . Times / activity details will be added
nearer the date. Do as much or as little as you like. Help welcomed.

Dear Member

Canoe Wales is pleased to announce that the inaugural Premier Slalom Event at Cardiff International White Water Centre will be held on Sunday 11th July 2010.

Canoe Wales extends an open invitation to all to come and watch this high class event at Wales’ newest World Class Facility.

Entry for spectators will be free on the day so please come along and support our paddlers at what promises to be a great day and a first for our sport.

Refreshments will be available for purchase at the Centre’s Licensed Cafe.

The programme for Sunday will be as follows:

Sunday 11th July

  • 0730 Water on
  • 0800 Demos, followed by officials practice
  • 0915 Officials A 1st runs
  • 0930 Premier 1st runs
  • 1100 Officials A 2nd runs
  • 1130 Premier 2nd runs, with Officials B 1st runs part way through.
  • 1330 Officials B 2nd run
  • 1400 Prize giving

It has been almost 10 years since the first concept of an artificial white water centre was introduced to Cardiff City Council and Cardiff Harbour Authority by Canoe Wales.  In that period the final design and location for the project has changed a number of times, and project leaders and campaigners have had many sleepless nights over the delivery of the scheme.

However on the 26th March 2010 the £13.4m centre was finally opened to the public and it is now proving a popular venue for Welsh boaters and clubs and paddlers from the South and West of England.

The facility is world class and no expense has been spared on the construction of centre which is known as Cardiff International White Water. The Centre is managed by Cardiff Harbour Authority which is a division of Cardiff County Council.

The Premier on the 11th July will be the slalom first event run at the centre and promises a high class entry of competitors including Olympic medal winners and those with an eye on selection for the 2012 Games.

Just a reminder about the `Kids Kayaking & Kamping' weekend on July 10th & 11th. Everyone is welcome, especially kids, and big kids who can help supervise / provide moral support! The idea is to have an informal weekend camping by the sea, with a bit of paddling, and hopefully a bbq in the evening. Aimed at kids in SCC, but if they want to bring along friends who want to have a go at paddling, that's fine. Please let me know if you intend to come along so that we can get an idea of numbers for food etc.

The campsite is at the `Outdoor Alternative' site next to Borthwen:
Cerrig yr Adar, Rhoscolyn, Holyhead, Anglesey, LL65 2NQ
Gridref: SH277753
See their website http://www.outdooralternative.co.uk/directions.html if you need more information.

Someone will be at the campsite from 10am on Saturday morning. People are free to come along at any point, and camp overnight if you wish. We will try to organise enough kayaks and kit, but do bring your own if you have it. Some food will be provided for Saturday evening, but bring your own food & drinks for the daytime. Don't forget a tent, sleeping bag and camping kit if you intend to stay overnight, plus swimming gear and a change of clothes.

HELP needed! If you are able to come along for some or part of the weekend, to help supervise paddling, provide entertainment (!) and/or help with food, please do! Let me know if you can.

Please pass on this message to any members who might be interested but are still unable to access the website.

The weather forecast doesn't look brilliant for this weekend, but I'm sure we'll
still have fun. More kids & helpers always welcome!

Make sure you bring all the usual kit for getting cold & wet - wetsuits & full
waterproofs (just in case)plus sufficient changes of dry clothes. Please bring
food / packed lunch for the saturday, and contributions to the evening BBQ would
also be welcome. Don't forget a sleeping bag & tent too.

We'll be there from 10am Saturday morning, but feel free to come along at any
time over the weekend.

If you have any questions, just get in touch.

Cheshire Council seem to have set up a couple of Canoe Trails that might be
worth exploring in open boats. One is on the river Dee down to Chester and one
on the river Weaver. Have a look at the web-site below for more details.

Let me know if you might be interested. I don't think they offer the excitement
of the Tryweryn but might be nice for a day paddle.

After lots of discussion, Sadly, we have decided to CANCEL the kids kayaking
camp this weekend (maybe another time?). The weather forecast is spectacularly
bad for a pleasant paddle, BBQ and overnight camp - looks set to be very windy &
wet through most of saturday & saturday night.

SORRY to everyone who was looking forward to it!
