Hi Rapid, you have indeed got people talking. But obviously kiting
communities just wanna keep things safe, especially as I know a fair
few people were shaken by the dude who got into difficulties and died
off Boscombe beach whilst kitesurfing earlier this year. And just to
make clear, I'm by no means any sort of instructor of kiting
(unfortunately!), but I don't mind showing people the little I know
and letting them have a go on a tiny beginner kite. I would always
advise people though to have professional coaching if they want to
fly kites that aren't tiny beginner kites. And do therefore
recommend the same to you mate. You'll have so much more fun in the
long run!

near other kiters, second, beside lawrence, no-ones offered to help
me out, or put me off. if i was experinced and met someone as keen
as me , i would teach them. Telling me its dangerous is rather
obvious,if it wasnt , it wouldnt be so much fun. i am a extreme
person and not going normal route is one of my traits, driving..self
taught unicycle, self taught, tattooist self taught. i suppose i
get a bit of satisfaction knowing im doing same as pioneer, but with
benefit of better tools. I,ll do my best not to damage the sports
press, also i am looking at getting a 12 bow. cheers all rapid

Not to mention it could be very costly to yourself and others using
the water. The last thing i want is a rouge kitesurfer taking me and
my kite out. I had a bad day and Penzances in January and it cost me
my Sling Shot Fuel and a wetsuit and £200 to repair the both and that
was totally mother nautre calling the shots! The only loser is a dead
one!

I would suggest a 10 - 12 m bow kite to star learning on AFTER
lessons! as the are stable and predicable. Kitesufing is nothing like
power kiting. The two kites are very different and control and
reactive in very different ways from one another I know as i started
on power kites

Rapid,

You’re enthusiasm is great, but these guys are right. You really should do lessons – purely for the safety aspect if nothing else. You need to be able to self rescue, and know what to do when you get into difficulty. If you get into difficulty and then make a wrong decision things could get bad.

Malc

Rapid, for gods sake listen to the advice given. Do not go it alone. By
the sounds of it you are looking at an early death, and frankly, we
could do without the bad press at the moment.

You will also get good advice on the type of kite you want to buy as
well, and it won't be a 19.5m kite, let alone an ARX. You ain't ready
for the power or the instability of it. TO be honest whoever sold you
these old kites should be shot. None are suitable for a beginner.

Just a small word of warning, learning to kitesurf on a 19m kite is
dangerous and should only be done in winds less than 10mph. The best
bar i would suggest is a Slingshot or Naish 4 line to start with

Hi, I've just joined this group and wondered if anyone fancied getting
some flying on the go at some point soon? I've flown powerkites on
beaches before, and had setting up, launching, flying and landing
tuition, and done some body dragging (in water), but as of yet no
actual kitesurfing. I'm based in Boscombe, so ideally would like to do
some flying (fairly chilled) at Hengistbury head (apparently where
there's a dedicated place for it), though can travel to Poole or
elsewhere obviously if it's cool conditions. I've got a Wipika Free
Air 8.5m but realise that I'd need to go bigger to get on the water.
Even so, would be good to build up experience with it and other kites.
What kites/experience do poeple have and would anyone be interested in
a kiting-session? Or if you know of any going on post it up!
Cheers,
Loz

Hi all,

I am relatively experienced windsurfer/wakeboarder that is new to the
sport and the area... Moved to Bournemouth over the summer but work
abroad most of the time. I spent about 4 weeks over the summer getting
used to my new kit in Poole harbour. Is there anyone that gets the
oppotunity to go out during the week that wants to hook up, or could
let me know when anyone is going out? Being still fairly
unexperienced I am still only looking to go out when there are quite a
few others out already. I have only been out in Poole Harbour so far
but interested in getting to some other locations if wind is
different.. Have own transport and could provide f needed.

Frustrated work shy bum looking for company!!
Cheers

Had to post this video of a kitesurfer hoisted 50 meters up, for ~30
seconds.

No bones broken apparently

Out after work 2 nights on the trot.

Hardly legendary riding conditions however I can't complain about the
opportunity to practise after a day in the office.

Poole police were handing out water proof key pouches.
The rozzers state there has been an increase in car thefts/breakins.
The bad guys watch where you stash your electronic key then move in.

I got a little waterproof plastic key with my Audi maybe you can get
them for other cars?

Hi there

I am a moderator of a kitesurf group in Scotland with the same members
and an equally active membership. Just an offer for those of you
heading north on a surfari to get in touch if you want a guide to west
scotland or some other further flung destinations - Lewis Harris (my
favourite) Tiree (go anywhere any wind direction) and other places
like Macrahanish and spots on the east coast.

Also been around so can advise on Lagos, Portugal and spots around
Cape Town, SA (from my wavesailing days)

GPS locations for PORTUGAL, Outer Hebrides and Prestwick Troon ....
wind on average higher up here.

you can launch from Sandbanks without bother. Still quiet at this time
of year, but will get busier.

Harbour launch by Sandacres, but unless you are a newby, or the wind is
NW, don't bother. It gets rediculously busy, and is where the newbies
are learning.

hi there malcolm, in poole harbour there is a designated place for
kitesurfers and other sail sports to launch from. this is round at the
sandbanks side of the harbour. there are many places to set up on small
beach. there is pay and display parking all along the road arround this
area. As for kiting in the sea at sanbanks it does get very busy and tricky
to launch and land safely so most kitesurfers launch from boscomb, which is
the other side of bournemouth. this is a great spot but you have to be aware
of the groins along the beach.(not for beginners). anyway i hope this has
helped you out and prob see you out there soon although theres no wind at
the mo. Dan

Hi there, Could anyone tell me which part of Poole Harbour I should
head for? I don't really know the area, where abouts are good
launching/landing spots and where is there a good place to park? Also,
if I want to surf on the sea, is it practical to launch from the beach
at Sandbanks or is it always too busy? Any tips would be much
appreciated! Thanks, Malc.

Hi Andy,

Good question. I didn't really have a great deal of response following the mail I sent out a few weeks ago.

So this is what I'm going to suggest for meetings:

8th March - 8pm La Bateau - Shops and SouthDorset committee members. To organise official launch, what we are about, what are we going to do (i.e. downwinder?), agree logo, etc.

25th March - Sandacres - Official SouthDorset Kitesurfing Club launch - sponsored by the local shops.

FYI, I will be snowboarding next week.

Any questions please reply or call me on my mobile 07968181088.

Cheers,
Pete

P.S. I believe a few people are still to register on the yahoo site http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/southdorsetkitesurfing/

Hi Pete

Just a quick mail to see where we are up to with the club etc.
Are we still aiming to get a meeting together for the spring?

Best regards

This is very much in its infancy, but at least it is a start and can be used as a central repository for the club's communications and information.

For the first club meeting I suggest we have schedule it on Saturday 18th March, please can you confirm whether this is OK. However, before this date we all need to get together and plan the Clubs promotion and agenda, so when is good for everyone to meet up?

Any other questions please respond.

Regards,

Peter

Hello,

The moderator of the poolekitesurfing group has changed the
group's name. This means that both the group's email address and the
group home page location have changed.

The group email address:

The group home page location:

If you have links which point to this group or an address book entry
for the group, you should update them, as the old addresses will no
longer work.
