Hello everyone!
Well it was our 1st Play Away Night of 2009 and what a fabulous cocktail night we had in Que Pasa. How was everyone feeling this morning? If you were not suffering from the alcohol surely all those food colourings were a shock to the system - Jelly Baby Cocktail anyone? Welcome to Derek, Lisa, Edwina and Marlon who came to visit it us for the first time, I hope you enjoyed yourself, Que Pasa is not the easiest of bars to sit and chat but I think we all did pretty well. Welcome back Terry, Karen, Mark and Libby - you guys just can't keep away!
What I anticipated to be a quiet Friday night meal at Pizza Express last week, ended up being a table for 15! As well as a bunch of regulars, and a couple of been-befores it was great to meet Bassem for the first time. We supped a few bevvies in the Court Jester before tucking into yummy pizza's and pasta's. We handed in a bunch of 2-4-1 vouchers and somehow it still ended up being an expensive night, especially for the guys on the large Peroni's, Dave and Stu, who probably spent more on beer (£5.90 a bottle) than food!
On Saturday night Shelly commandeered the comfy seats in Mono - fab going! When I arrived Donna was drinking something very potent, it was the neatest cocktail I had ever tried, Donna, do you think they forgot to put the mixers in? It was great to see Singstar-Tim, happy new year! After an hour or so of Drum'n'Base we caved in and headed for 80's cheese at Reflex. As soon as we entered the club Shelly was grinning from ear to ear - she so loves this place - it's already on the calendar for her birthday on the 7th March! Shelly, Donna, Bassem, Matt, Libby, Terry and I danced the night away to some hideous songs! I kicked a piece of paper from under my foot out of the way to which Libby dived on it "It's a £10 note" she whispered to which Bassem proclaimed "Paula, your shoes are leaking money" - lol, there were no obvious takers for the money so with a little bit of guilt we headed straight upstairs to spend it at the bar and watch the limbo competition - come on Terry you know you wanted to take part really! http://www.plusgroups.org.uk/a/event/shellysbirthdaybash
This Friday (tonight) Stu is off to the Brook for the Hounds of Love gig (Kate Bush tribute) tickets are £10 so give him a call if you fancy meeting up with him. http://www.plusgroups..org.uk/a/event/houndsoflovegig
Also tonight, a large posse from SHQ are off to Jongleurs, however, their reservation is full but you may be able to purchase a ticket independently by contacting the venue http://www.plusgroups.org.uk/a/event/jongleursjanuary2009
On Sunday SHQ are going for a Pub Lunch and a stroll in Gosport, wrap up warm guys it's gonna be cold! http://www.plusgroups.org.uk/a/sundaylunchgosport
Make sure you are well rested this weekend as next Friday we are off to Playzone on the 6th February
http://www.plusgroups.org.uk/a/playzonefeb09 and on Sunday 8th February it's the Russell Kane Comedy Gig. If you wanna come to that you may be a little late as apparently when I rang up on Tuesday I had purchased the last ticket! http://www.plusgroups.org.uk/a/russellkanesgapingflawscomedygig
Don't despair there are plenty of Comedy Nights, in particular The Comedy Bar Edinburgh Preview Special in June which is selling fast. I'm getting tickets (£9) on Monday so I need to know if you wish to go asap, it is sit anywhere so you can book your own at the Nuffield Theatre.
Don't forget to check out the Plus Website for everything that is going on. Our Facebook Group is up to date but to find out the details on what's going on elsewhere the Plus website is the best place to look; it has information on all the holidays and events e.g. the forthcoming National Badminton http://www.plusgroups.org.uk/a/event/nationalbadmintoncompetition2009
And remember all members are entitled to a Log-in so grab yours now (send me a message to request yours and I'll it sorted for you).
We are thinking of going to Bestival this year rather than the Ilse of Wight Festival. If you fancy it please shout so we can start to make arrangements. Bestival is in September but if you can't wait till then to get away then why not go to Brean? Brean is a 3 day party starting on the 20th March.. It is one of those weekends where you can be as busy or as lazy as you like. It is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow Plus members from around the country. There are bands, a DJ and lots of other entertainment. Moreover, the Saturday night is themed, this year it's 'Rock Chick & Biker Boy' so you can get your outfits ready! http://www.plusgroups.org.uk/a/brean2009
In anticipation of the glorious summer we are going to have this year we've added Go Ape, Zorbing, SA Beach BBQ and the Beggars Fair to the Facebook Events. Check them out and sign-up!
Next week we will be back in Chambers on Wednesday 4th February from 8pm and I'll try and get the section by the Pizza Oven (right hand back corner) cordoned off again. I won't be there but fear not Amanda will and so too will Philippa - welcome back! - skiver ;D
Toodles,
Paula Pocket
