fine, and it ran well on my circuit. I then put it on my test track and powered
up the Sprog, (so I could change some of the speed settings) it identifies the
decoder as a Hornby Version 13 and doesn't know what to do with it.

Hi Mike,
As Matt has already suggested, it's well worth updating to the latest Decoder
Pro (now ver 2.6). You may find your decoder is now in the list.
You can always click on "NMRA" at the very top of the list of decoders, then
choose "NMRA standard CV defninitions". You can then set the address, motor and
speed settings in the usual way, even though Decoder Pro does not know exactly
which decoder it is.
Any special features of the Hornby Decoder won't be there, and some of the
standard features shown (such as the speed table) may or may not be supported by
the Hornby Decoder, but at least it lets you set the basic stuff.
Presumably the 8249 is the more recent Hornby decoder that does work properly?
I know that some early Hornby decoders wouldn't read back CVs at all.
Hope that helps.
Regards,
Pete
