Mike,
to clarify here, you connect the resistor to the SPROG, in one of the "track"
connections, and then it will work for any decoder. You do not do anything at
the decoder.
This 10 ohm resistor helps manage the high inrush current of some sound decoders
during programming, but will not negatively affect the programming for any
decoder, including non-sound decoders.
Note; this resistor solution is only required if you need it; it is not
recommended for every use - only if you experience this kind of problem, and it
must not be added if you are using your SPROG for layout control; it would drop
the track voltage badly with a larger current draw, and would also get very
warm!

Hi Mike,
No, just put the resistor on one of the track wires leading out of the
SPROG (I mentioned the red and black wires 'cause I'm wiring mine
directly into the SPROG until it's installed in the loco).
Thanks,
Damin.

Hi,
Does the SPROG 3 have an internal circuit breaker or any other kind of
protection in case the maximum output current is exceeded?
If so, how do you "reset" it after a short?
I ask because I'm planning on using the SPROG to power a switching
layout and was wondering if I need to install a separate DCC circuit
breaker or not.
Thanks,
Damin.
Hi all, I wonder if any one has come across this problem.
I have just instslled a train save (Guagemaster) decoder into one of my locos
and my sprog 2 will not read it, has any one got any answers that may help. The
info on the decoder is TSV01a 4 function Dcc Decoder.
Thanks
Peter
In Mike's case, programming is working fine, it's turning the power on to run
locos that is the issue.
I am working on a theory but haven't recreated the problem yet.

Andrew

Peter,
Do you mean really will not read it and you get a "no loco detected" error, or
it just doesn't recognise the decoder type.

It does have a current limit, which auto resets and tries to restore the power.
This repeats, with the track LED flashing quickly, until the the short is
removed.

Hi Andrew
sorry i didnt get back to you but been out today, when the loco is on the test
track and i click on new loco then click on read type from decoder the loco
moves as if the sprog is reading and then i get the following text on the bottom
of the screen, stopping due to error no locomotive detected (301) I have wired
train save decoders into 2 locos they both do the same thing. when i look at the
list of decoders there is no mention of train save. the other thing is they both
work well on my old backman dcc controller and the lights work.
Hope this info is of help to you.

You can just use standard nmra type to set it up. This will allow youn to open
programmer. It is because the Trainsave decoder is not on your list. You can
now download the Trainsave info from I think JMRI site

Peter,
You'll find the correct file (TrainSave_TSV01a v0.2.xml) on the JMRI
user group file section.

Peter,
That means that the SPROG is not seeing the decoder acknowledgement at all, so
using standard NMRA settings will not help.
Do you have any locos with other decoder types? Do they work with the SPROG?

Hi all.
Thanks for all the answers and help, I have many locos that i can run in sprog
comand some sound and others that i have wired in the decoders myself.
Tha two locos that i was asking about i have now added to my rosta using the
standard NMRA and all is well i can change the address's and change the CV's. so
once again thanks fot all your help

Is it possible to download additional sounds, including LokSound's own sound
files, into LokSound V4 type decoders via Sprog 11 without using a LokProgrammer
and if so, how?
Doug
Nope, you need to use their programmer and software.

I'm using DecoderPro3 and Sprog11 and am trying to create bespoke throttles for
various locos. I'm editing the standard throttle buttons/keys to show the
function each controls for each loco e.g. Brake, Dynamo, Whistle etc. and then
saving the modified version as a .xml (whatever that is!) file in the throttle
layout page. This has been successful for 4 steam locos all running with Tsunami
decoders and their modified throttles are easily recalled for use as required.
However, the throttles for 2 diesel railcars, one running on a Tsunami TSU750
and the other on a LokSound 4 decoder, refuse to save as edited versions and in
the process of trying, I have saved a number of now unwanted files in "throttle
layout", so I now have the following issues:
1. Why do the diesel throttles refuse to save in edited form when the steam
locos present no problem and how do I cure this? There seems to be no logic here
at all.
2. How do I delete the unwanted files in "throttle layout"? There does not seem
to be any process for this, only "view, refresh, new folder" and when I do
manage to remove the offending file title by backspacing, it simply asks me to
re-title it or it re-saves as is.
3. I am unable to find the throttle tool bar in the format described in the
"help" notes. Is this a function of Sprog11 or am I missing something blindingly
obvious?
You will have gathered that I am a relative computer numpty and a newcomer to
DecoderPro which, up to now, I have found a pretty intuitive tool which has made
programming no longer a dark art but any help with my learning curve will be
gratefully received.
This has also been posted on the Yahoo JMRI forum.

Hi,
Has any used a Sprog 11 with windows 7?
Did you experience any problems with drivers for win 7?
Are there any problems I should know about?
I have ordered my Sprog, but not yet recrivrd it.
Thanks
David Aitken
David,
I ran my Sprog ii on my Netbook with Win 7 Starter 32 today. It also runs on my
home computer with
Win 7/64.

Hi David,
I have recently switched to Windows 7 and had no problems at all but I use a
USB - Serial converter with my serial SPROG 2.
I identified the COM port allocated to the usb converter from the Device
Manager screen and just set JMRI to connect to that port in the preferences
section.

I have exactly the same problem. Didn't work on one laptop so installed on
another. Work great right off. Shut down packed up the laptop took it to a
train show three days later and now get error 306. JMRI shows the sprog online
but can't communicate with it. I've done everything possible. Totally removed
all aspects of the sprog and DP 2.14 program and settings, did a reg clean,
rewired everything, checked continuity of all wiring. tried three different
comports, and nothing. Unfortunately I see there is still no found cause or fix
for the issue. I have an expensive sprog laying here that isn't even heavy
enough to use as a paperweight.

Mark,
When you have PanelPro loaded, if you go to the Sprog menu and select "Sprog
Version" what response do you get? It should return the firmware version which
would indicate that things are talking correctly. If it doesn't return
anything, have you tried a different usb cable? I know that in the past that
faulty usb cable have ended up being the cause of such issues.

Mark,
When you broke the system down to move, did you happen to disconnect the power
supply?
I went nuts one day trying to figure out why two new Sprogs would sometimes
work, and then not. (After replacing a bad power supply)
Turns out the polarity of the power feed matters. I swapped the polarity of the
power wires, and the magic returned!
One wire is marked ("+" or white stripe). This wire goes to the outside
connector.

Hallo,
I'm new to this list but may be you know me from
other lists ;-)
I have a question about SPROG II (USB Ver 2.7):
I have tried many locos with different decoders
(QSI, SoundTraxx, Zimo, ESU and others) and all
works without any problems when reading CVs.
That's really great!
But now I have here an Athearn Genesis Caboose with
a SoundTraxx Lightning Decoder. The manual says
that it will be unlikely to read CVs successfully
because the low current drawn by the LEDs.
But I have tried. And I can read some CVs. Sometimes
you have to try a second or third time. But it's still
unreliable. I guess that the Ack-pulse generated will be
far below 60mA.
So the question: Is there any way to adjust the sensitivity
of the Ack input?
I have not seen the schematic of SPROG II but in the MERG
version it is connected to AN1 of the PIC and AN0 is looks
like a voltage reference. So any software or hardware
change to adjust this?
thanks for SPROG, Martin
