St John's Lye is a an area of Common Land near Woking in Surrey. There has been pressure from many sources to encroach on this Open Space for Development or one sort or another. This Group is to both protect and lobby for better management of the area from our local authority.
There is a current proposal to rebuild our Community Hall on the Common and for the Hall to relinquish their current land to the Council for Social Housing. Whilst we support the rebuilding of the Hall, we cannot support the use of Common Land for this purpose.
The area is a now natural habitat for many species and is registered as a SNCI (Site for Nature Conservation Interest)and this status is as a result of the camomile lawn that grows around the cricket pitch. It is also Registered Common Land and a Conservation Area.
This site has been set up to give the local community the chance to voice their concerns in open forum and get their message across. Good or Bad, it is important that the views of the villagers are heard. This is your space - please use it, and recommend it to your friends.
Welcome to our new members. This forum is for everyone who has an interest in St John's Lye and the surrounding area and is here for you to share your thoughts
