SEBA Communication: update from Newhaven Baptist Church

Dear Friends

First of all an apology for net getting information to you in time for Sunday but Anne & I only got back from London last night at 10.00pm and our internet access was not functioning.

Beryl successfully came through the operation on Friday after being in theatre for about 6 hours.
Her heart was restarted and is beating at the moment with the aid of a pace maker.

Shortly after her operation it was necessary to take her back to theatre because she was loosing significant amounts of blood. After reopening and enlarging the incision the surgical found the source of the bleed and dealt with the problem.

At abut 3.00am Saturday morning things were stabilised.

Anne and I saw her for a short time yesterday. She was off the respirator, conscious and looking reasonable for someone who had undergone such a procedure and the following trauma.

Please give thanks that she has got thought the operation and the initial hurdles are over.

The danger has not passed yet.
We would ask your continued prayers for:

Physically
i.          The bleeding where she has had about 200 stitches in or around her heart to stop – i.e. that her blood clots and her body begins to kick in with the natural healing processes.
ii.          That she will suffer no infection as a result of the operations – she is receiving large amounts of anti-biotics to fight off possible infection
iii.         Her heart that it may in due course be able to beat properly without the use of a pace maker.

Emotionally
i.              The understandable fear that anyone would have as a result of what has happened to Beryl.
ii.             That if she for whatever reason has to go back to theatre or to undergo any further (unpleasant – fearful) procedure she will have the courage to do so. This could be a problem at the moment.

For the parents
Steve and Jan (and her sisters & brother Lydia, Laura Zoe and Kevin)
Steve and Jan look shattered.
But yesterday they look shattered and relieved that things are on and even keel now that Beryl is stable (remarkably giving out orders in her waking moments) and past the first great hurdle.
i.          That they get some rest and are kept free from illness during this difficult stressful time.

Anne and I are going back up to London this afternoon and will let you know any further news in due course.

Steve & Jan thank you for your prayers for Beryl and for the family.

Can I remind you that the family have asked not to be contacted directly. If you wish to be updated etc please do so via Newhaven Baptist Church

Many thanks

Dai Davies
