We are really sorry to have had to cancel out BBQ but we will get something sorted out for later. A quick update about James:
He was at Marine Cadet Camp near Exeter when his appendix became inflamed. He was admitted to the Royal Devon & Exeter hospital at 10.00pm on Thursday 16th July and had his appendix removed at 7.30pm on Friday 17th July. James appears fine. He was shattered before he was admitted (5 days of Marine Cadets saw to that!) so has slept like a babe today. He came back to the ward at about 10.00 snoring loudly and totally oblivious to what was going on. Hopefully, he will be out and back home on Monday.
Thank you for your love and prayers. Hope to see you soon.
God Bless
The Wards xx

Hi one and all,
Carol and Andy are having to cancel the BBQ arranged for Sunday. Unfortunately James is in hospital having his appendix removed. The appendicitis flared up whilst he was away at camp this week. Not sure of all the details, or exactly where he was at camp. The important thing is to remember the Ward family in your prayers. Please pass this info. on to anyone you know who is not contactable by email. Thanks.
Yours Janet and Ernie
PS Chris Green – are you aware of anyone on email who is not on the forum? Perhaps you could let me know. Thanks Janet
St Marys Island church meets once a month for prayer. This is considered vital to the future health of our church because it is essential that we spend time communicating with God who is the driving force in what we do. The prayer time starts at 7.00 and lasts for one hour. We experiment with different forms of prayer but the contemplative sessions have proved to be particularly successful.
The leaders of the church are very conscious of the time commitments that constrain particularly those at work. Therefore we try to vary the day between Tuesdays and Wednesdays so that those with regular weekly commitments will at least be able to make some of the prayer times. It is also perfectly acceptable for anyone to join the prayer session late and leave early. Dates have been arranged for the rest of the year as follows;
Wednesday 5 August-John/Martin
Wednesday 9 September-Ernie/Janet H (Tuesday is unavailable)
Wednesday 7 October-Bernie/John
Tuesday 3 November-Janet A/Sandi
Wednesday 2 December-Jacqui/Carol
The church council has made these dates a priority. You might like to do the same. Everyone is welcome. It is a time for quiet reflection as we turn to God with our daily routine or with our problems. It is a time of refreshment in a busy environment.

Please find attached an advertisement from Christchurch Westgate advertising for a part time youth and children's worker. Please pass this on to anyone that you may know in that area that may interested.
Thanks for your email with the draft youth worker advert. Sorry for delay in reply ... I always seem to be playing catch up with emails :-)
My comments ....
I think that the advert needs to provide a little bit more information. As per your application to Turn the Tide, I would advise that you include the following:
- looking for someone commited to Christ and committed to children & young people.
- focused on church based activities for children & young people
- c.15 hours pw
- salary c.£8000 pa
I would question whether it is worth the £300 or so cost for advertising in Youthwork magazine for a job less than half-time, as you are most likely to get a local person and Youthwork is a national magazine. Might be more value for money to advertise through church networks (including through myself) and the local press / websites. However, at the end of the day it is your decision of course.
I would definitely be keen to be involved in the interview. I wouldn't be able to do the 5th October, but I would be able to do 6th, 7th or 8th.
Please note I am away for the whole of August on holidays and residentials, but as things are quietening down now I will be able to get back to you if you contact me again in the next 2 weeks.

Isn't it strange how… a £10 note seems like such a large amount when you put it in the collection plate at church, but such a small amount
when you go shopping or to a restaurant?
Isn't it strange… how 2 hours seem a long time be at church, but how short they seem
when watching a movie?
Isn't it strange… that you can't find a word to say when you're praying… but you have no trouble thinking
what to talk about with a friend?
Isn't it strange… how we need about 2-3 weeks notice
for an event at Church so we can include it in our diaries, but we can drop everything
at the last minute for other events?
Isn't it strange… how difficult it is to learn & share the truth about God; but how easy it is to learn, extend and repeat gossip?
Isn't it strange how we believe everything we read
in the newspapers and magazines but... we question the words in the Bible?
Isn't it strange how everyone wants a place in heaven but... they don't want to do, say or believe anything
to get there?

Check out what some of our boys overseas did to their helicopter. This very special Mi-24 helicopter is presently flying in Afghanistan , where it is no doubt causing quite a stir.
Keep him walking. This man is walking to show support for our troops.
Please pass him on so that he can reach his destination. Say a prayer for our soldiers, then pass him on to others. This is really interesting how someone did this.
He's walking around the world -- via e-mail!Pass it on so he can get there!

Dear all
Another update from Gary:
All are still doing well and keeping healthy. The
Bible Club is going well with 50-65 children coming. The Ladies' Group
meets again tomorrow so please pray for that. Three ladies became Christian
after church last week so that's great (Rose, Harriet and one other). Gary says relationship
building is key and the team have been really good at doing this.
They had a 20 minute downpour yesterday and they have had
loads of thunder and lightening and even as we spoke tonight it was starting to
rain which is good news. Please continue to pray for the much needed rain
for the crops.
Gary, Trevor and Lesley are hoping to go into town tomorrow
to buy the rest of the materials needed to complete the school teachers'
building once the team has left.
Gary also asked
that we pray for safety as they travel to the airport on Friday and as they fly
home. They are due at the Old Vicarage between 9 and 9.30 am on Saturday
so if anyone is around you would be most welcome to come and welcome them
back.
Could you forward this out to the fraternal please?
-We’re taking 17 young
people away on a summer camp and would ask for your prayers! We’re really
excited at what God will do in these young lives, and pray that relationships
will strengthen and that the young people will move on in their journey’s with
Christ.
-Also, we have been
informed that we are to be blessed with two female year out volunteers next
year. Jessica who is from Swansea and joins us straight from sixth form and
Becca who is from Preston, and comes to Gillingham following a first year with
YFC in her home town. We would value your prayers for all the small
details of these two young ladies joining and also that we would be able to
find appropriate accommodation for them. If you feel that you might be
able to host either Jessica or Becca for part of the year we would love to hear
from you. Please contact the GYFC office on 578128 or email Malcolm malgyfc@...

Thanks so much for all your prayers. We are safely
home having had a fantastic trip. We were blessed by the whole experience
and Godwas good to us. we all remained healthy until one had a little
upset tummy on the plane home! We made new friends. We helped with
building and found out how important time is in any relationship.
I visited with others in the team a lady and her family from
the church. She opened our meeting in her home with thanks for my visit
to her home 3 years ago. She said I had blessed and encouraged her to be
strong after the death of her husband. She told me the words I spoke and
prayed had remained with her and given her strength for the past 3 years and
there I was again to visit her in her home.
We do not know the power of the words we speak. They
are in God's hands. He uses them for his purposes. I had forgotton the
visit to her home and certainly what I had said but she hadn't. We have a
great big God and He uses us despite our failings, in spite of our
weaknesses.
Never underestimate the word you speak or the time you give
to another person. It may help to sustain them and encourage them and
give them strength for the future!
Thanks for your prayers. The team were great and the
time was a blessing to us all. My prayer is that the time we gave and the
words we spoke, prayers we prayed will be a blessing to our friends in the
community we have left behind
Tonight – Wednesday – is the monthly ‘Praying
Together’. 7.00pm – 8.00pm in the School Hall.. Come when you
can, stay for as long as you can. Tonight we are focussing on the School, the
Island, and the SMIChurch.
A quick reminder that this coming Sunday – 13th
– we are due to have a report-back about Uganda from Chris and Bernie,
after the end of the morning service. This will be followed by a church BBQ
- suggested donations of £2.50 per head (originally typed £250!!! So £2.50 is
a real bargain!). I look forward to seeing you there.
Thanks Janet
PS. Please continue to keep Yvonne and her family in
your prayers – her daughter Karen is still on the danger list.
Hi All, Please add this to your prayers.

Employment Appeal Tribunal Today 10/09/2009
Case
of Gary McFarlane.
A
crucial case for Christian liberties is being argued in the Employment
Appeal Tribunal today. Gary McFarlane, a relationship counsellor, was
sacked because his Christian beliefs prevented him giving sex therapy to
homosexual couples.
Gary
McFarlane had worked for Relate since 2003. He was disappointed with the
hostility he had experienced from Relate. Although Mr McFarlane had never
had to provide sex therapy to a same sex couple, he thought that if the
situation did arise, he would be able to discuss
his
Christian views with his supervisors so that his position could be discussed
and if necessary accommodated. Any such discussions were, however, pre-empted
by unexpected meetings between Mr McFarlane and his manager in October 2007
when he was asked to state his views regarding same sex couples. Despite
explaining that he would counsel couples in compliance with Relate's Equal
Opportunities Policy, and that he would raise any issues with his supervisors
and manager, as good practice required, Mr McFarlane was suspended in early
January 2008 and then dismissed in March 2008. Mr McFarlane was given no
other choice than to subject his religious faith to the Equal Opportunities
Policy.
Although
he won his wrongful dismissal claim at the first Trial the issue of his
religious liberty is now being considered by the Employment Appeal Tribunal.
A
fundamental issue is being raised in this case as to whether Christian faith
presents a bar to Governmental and numerous private sector employments. In a
number of decisions it has been held lawful for an employer to require
adherence to an Equal Opportunities Policy,
and compel Christians to support the practice of sexual conduct that they
believe is sinful. In short, a condition of employment will be the support of
practices contrary to their faith. These rulings will drive many Christians
out of many employments; and in an age in which the Government is an
important employer, significant restriction on our liberties is taking place.
Pray for
the Tribunal that they can make a brave decision supporting freedom of
religion and for Counsel and the Christian Legal Centre working on this case
today.

From: Malcolm Smith
[mailto:malgyfc@...] Sent: 22 September 2009 14:29 To: Malcolm Smith Subject: After a long summer...
Here is our first prayer update for the new academic
year!!
Your prayers have been so important in the past two
months as we have taken part in a whole raft of summer activities, as well as
running our annual Falcon Camp and taking a team to Romania. As I look back at
what God has achieved through us I feel overwhelmed, and understand why I feel
a little drained!!
Some points for prayer in the coming month;
-Trustees away days on the
28th-29th September. This will be a key time for
Gillingham YFC as we seek God’s face for our short and medium term
future. Please pray for wisdom, dreams and visions, and that we will have
ears to hear what God is saying to us and the courage to act upon it.
Also thank God for our trustees who spend much time in prayer and thought for
GYFC
-Please pray for Becca and
Jess our two new volunteers who began work with us this week. Please pray
that they settle in quickly and that we are able to find suitable host homes
for them.
-Please pray for past
volunteers. Duncan Haslam has this week moved to Coventry
to begin a gap year with NEXUS (http://www.nexustrust.co.uk/);
Helen Ince has moved to Swindon to work with Youth for Christ and Jess Foster
has returned to New Zealand.
Please pray that they will know our Lord’s leading and guidance in all
they do.
-Ben, Zoe and Emily moved
away from Gillingham in August to take up a new post in Downham Market with the
MethodistChurch. Thank the Lord for all
they gave to GYFC in their time with us and prayer blessing upon them in their
new venture.
-Give thanks for Kirstie,
as we celebrate the culmination of her hard work over the past two years in
qualifying a professional youth worker!
-Abby is expecting our
third child who is due to be born in March! Please pray for a safe and
healthy pregnancy, and thank the Lord for the gift of new life!!
-Finally please pray for
Dave and Laurie Guard! The team had a fantastic day witnessing Dave and
Laurie promise their lives to one another in August. Pray that Laurie
will feel at home very quickly in Gillingham, that her University placement in
Rochester will go well and for Dave as he learn to balance work with the rest
of his life!
We have attached our timetable for the next month

for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will
find rest for your souls.” Jeremiah

This
occasional email prayer bulletin supplements the Medway Towns Prayer Guide (we are looking to produce a new
edition of the colour fold-up Guide in January 2010) and is intended to inform
and encourage a prayer response (appropriate to you) to current situations in
Medway and highlight opportunities for Christians from across the whole Medway
church to agree or meet together in worship and prayer for the life and folk of
the Medway Towns.
·Churches Together in
Medway:
Pray for the AGM to be held on Mon 2 Nov
at Emmaus Church Centre, Clover Street, Chatham
from 7.30 pm (all welcome to attend). Pray also for the ministerial vacancies
across the Towns to be filled quickly by ministers who come to us with a clear
calling to, and love for, the area as a whole. Further details from the CTIM
Chairman, Richard Alford on 01634 315135 or richard@... .
Please also pray for the planned GSUS bus outreach to Medway’s secondary
schools in 2010, for connections with the schools and the necessary support
workers to be in place, more details from Richard as above.
·Ward Prayer: Tue 3 Nov: Christians living in Rochester South
and Horsted ward are invited to attend a prayer meeting for the life
of their ward to be held at St
Stephen’s Church, Huntsman’s Corner, Chatham between
7.30 pm and 8.30 pm. This is a new (and untried!) prayer initiative aimed at
linking Christians with their immediate geographic neighbours irrespective of
tradition just to pray for the area where they all live. Please contact Trevor
Clarke on 01634 409932 or trevoraclarke@...
for further details.
·Schools:Tue 17

Facilitated in Medway by The Family Trust, it will start promptly at noon in
the foyer of Gillingham Methodist Church,
Third Avenue, Gillingham, ME7 2LU
and end at 12.30 pm. You must contact
the Family Trust on 01634 281158 or medway@...
if you are planning to attend for important
further details. Just at the human level there is such a vast amount
of change occurring within Medway’s schools with 3 secondary academies
being established including the area’s first Church of England secondary
school, proposals for 16 infant and junior schools to be amalgamated
circulating, 2 schools planned for closure and the new 14-19 diploma programme
being introduced.

join in and worship as part of an informal congregation are also most welcome
to come along too (refreshments served in the interval). Further details from

Hi All, Prayer Calendar for GYFC for
November. Regards ERnie
From: Malcolm Smith

Hello! And once again, thank you all so much for your continued
prayers.
Attached you’ll find our day to day prayer calendar in what we
hope will be a much easier to read and follow format this month.
I was challenged this month by a sermon that I heard at a local church
about the man who had laid at the Pool of Bethsaida for many years. (John
chapter 5) Jesus asked the man who had been lying there for 38 years
waiting for his opportunity to get into the pool, “Do you want to get
well?” (John 5:6) The answer surely was obvious…he’d
been waiting here long enough in the hope that he might get into the pool when
the waters stirred…but I was challenged to wonder if this man had been
paralysed by a false hope. Here he was, unable to move, and yet he longed
to get into the pool. How could he possibly do that alone? There
was no way as he had no one to help him, and yet he still remained by the pool
side, in hope. He was holding onto a dream of getting better, something
that was and would cause a great deal of difference in his life…but this
hope, that could never be realised on his own, was preventing him from getting
on with the rest of his life.
We have come across a number of young people this month who have been
paralysed by their circumstance. Many of them hold onto a hope for the
future that will just never come true. For some this false hope is the
dream of obtaining money, for others it’s the affections of another
person, for some it’s alcohol or drugs. For each of them Jesus asks
them ‘Do you want to get well?’ But just as with the man at Bethsaida, it requires
movement away from that false hope, and people how will come alongside and help
them to move away.
Please pray that as we offer the hope of Jesus Christ to young people
this month that they will choose to move away from the things they believe will
solve their issues and discover true healing in the arms of the One who really
can set them free.
Please pray specifically for some of our young people who have been
subject to various forms of violence in the past week.
Thank you, and please feel free to get in touch with any thoughts,
words or pictures that you may receive whilst praying.
Hi All
Just asking for your prayers at the moment and your support if you can help.
PYFC is struggling for trustees at the moment. We are down to 4 with the
prospect of losing another soon. We are seeking people to join us or for people
to think about approaching others who they feel would like to consider joining
the board.
We particularly need someone with treasurer's experience as this is the person
whom we will be losing soon.
PYFC has established itself well at the Hundred of Hoo school, and we thank God
for this opportunity to be able to serve there. The school has welcomed us with
open arms and has just provided us with a brand new office and
meeting/counselling room.
Gemma is still the only youth worker, but we hope to employ another one soon,
finances permitting. We have also employed an administrator to keep things
ticking over paperwork wise, and applying for grants, something that Gemma didn't
really have time for.
Blessings!
Charlotte
Hi All, I would like to let you know that Leslie’s,
wife died today we don’t yet know the date of the funeral but it would be
good to cover Lesley with your prayers at this time. He is quite happy to have visitors,
if you felt it appropriate, and intends to be in Church on Sunday.
