Hi, I have had my 306 for almost 5 years now and a lot of money out
of my pocket on maintenance.

1
alarm goes off all the time and has to be set to internal for it to
work - Peugeot told me I'd have to buy an new alarm control unit
which is at least a couple of hundred. I'm sure there is a
sensitivity adjuster somewhere

2
Every year all my exhaust pipes and cat die - my car is standard, I
do 6000-8000 miles a year most of it on the motorway.

3
My power steering went, a garage fitted new one however it was
misaligned and caused the timing belt to shear. The garage admitted
fault and replaced the destroyed valves. The engine now taps lots
any idea what this is? I have moved and can't go back to the garage
now.

4
My fuel gauge is not accurate at all I have ran out of fuel before
and it was reading quarter of a tank, any incline and the gauge will
be off.

5
The remote fob has gone down to the metal where it wears so quickly.

6
My car sound like a baby den it rattles soo much - I could never
fall asleep driving.

7
The gear box linkages make a creaking noise now and then. Perhaps
new bushes at some point.

8
If I pull out of fifth gear and press to the right the gearstick
goes all sloppy and feels very very wrong afraid to repeat in case I
lose my gearbox. It feels like the mechanism has become free.

9
When I press down on the clutch is feels like a cable is splitting.
New cable

10
Clutch might be starting to slip

11
From getting in and out the drivers seat has work down to the
foam, some seat from eBay might sort that out.

Had nothing but problems with this car; the doors dent too, someone
almost wrote my car off by accelerating in to the back of me when I
was stationary on a slip road, they had 1/4 to see me in excellent
conditions(3k of damages later and 6 weeks in a garage)!!!! A white
van man did a hit and run on my car when I was shopping and took out
my nearside wing - black is the most expensive colour to sort out. I
have replaced most of the braking system and my radiator went last
Monday.

Having driven a 1.7d van for a week I realised how powerful it is
compared to a lot of vehicles on the road. So many vehicles are flat
out most the time when I sit happily barely touching the accelerator
pedal.

Is this much hastle typical of a 306?

Jon
