Had a mechanic friend look at my steering as id developed a knocking
and there was a lot of play when steering. Also, when driving round a
corner with a camber, the steering felt like it had locked and didnt
want to move, like the left wheel had dug into some mud or slipped
onto the verge, when on tarmac. Solution was p-bush...
so bought new front left wishbone, got it on this morning after
having a nightmare getting the ball joint out... but as we moved the
now loose wheel out to squeeze the wishbone out, what looked like
brake fluid fell out from above. My friend who helped said the drive-
shaft came out, and he pulled the wheel back and all went back how it
looked before. He thinks it came out the gaiter, but im not sure how
it would have 'sealed' back as easy as it came off with hardly any
effort. It all happened so quick, it seams to good to be true.
Dropped about half a cupful (oil leaks always look more/worse than
they are)...
Im really not sure what to do, i drove the car home, about 5 miles,
going no faster than 50... steering feels different as expected but
still a bit of play. I think the brake fluid has dropped a bit, but
it didnt smell like brake fluid...
Really at a loss, and as this is my only car, i need to know wether
im going to be safe or wether im likely to have a certain amount of
brown stuff hitting the fan when cruising at 70 down the M1!!!
Sorry for the length of the post but wanted to get all detail in.
My cars a 97 phase one 1.9 xldt... 92'000...
Any help greatfully appreciated
cheers
