do all the doors do it? if so, it sounds to me like one of the buttons
in the door hinges isn't functioning properly. they're the ones
responsible for telling the car that all the doors are shut. if you try
and lock the car with one of the doors open, it will behave just like
that. if you're confident that all the doors (and boot) are properly
shut, then it's time to investigate which switch is faulty. of course
much easier to do on a 3 door than a 5 door (only because there's more
of them!)
