It's a long time now since I owned my 306 but your problems sound
familiar.
1) Sounds like the speedo sensor which I believe is located on the
gearbox housing has failed. Mine used to fail intermittently but when
I heard where the sensor was (on the gearbox facing the bulkhead) I
decided to ignore it.
2) I know that my car's fan didn't work in the highest position when
I was looking to buy my 306. The dealer replaced the switch for me
and that fixed it. Might be worth you by-passing the switch to see if
that's the problem.
3) Whilst you've been "doing something" you've probably triggered the
alarm. The siren units often fail (because they are located above the
nearside front wheel arch liner and so water quickly gets in). I
can't quite remember how you reset the alarm - I think it involves
pressing that little button on the righthand side of the steering
column within about 15 seconds of opening the car and turning on the
ignition. (Worth searching the messages here because I think it's
been mentioned in the last year).
That's all I can remember. Let us know how you get on,
Stuart
