Does it start first time? Does it improve when at working temperature (hot)?

All,
I have a 1996 XRDT and its smoking! When I start it cold I nice plume of
black smoke appears and when the turbo kicks in in the dark and to no avail.
Has anyone else had this (changed the oil and filters 1000 miles ago? Any
recommendations?
Cheers
Robbie

Hiya,
Let's face it many jobs on the 306 are a bloody nuisance. I'm only
halfway through this job but can tell you of progress to date. I had to lie
upside down with head in passenger footwell. There are only 3 screws
securing motor but after removing the lower trim panel there are two
multi-wiring plugs which have to be dismantled first. They should just pull
apart but need a small screwdriver to push back the lug between the two plug
halves first.Take off the 6" bracket which the plugs are attached to and
then the access to the motor screws becomes easier. The Haynes maual is not
just useful but necessary to help you through the job. Having removed the
motor it seemed slightly stiff but oiling the bearings helped quite a bit.
That's as far as I've got so fat. I've spun the motor on a separate battery
- it jumps when you do this so hold it securely! Next job is to check the
ballast resistor (located via torx screwed cover near the n/s wiper.) Access
under the bonnet. If that's OK
I'll have to check out the 4 speed facia switch which could be expensive to
replace. It also means removing the stereo unit - another pain! I've been
told a replacement motor should cost less than a tenner from a scrapyard -
better than paying £100 plus (Probably) from Mr Peugeot.
Hope all this babble helps. Good luck with your repair.
Nige.

Cant offer advice, but would be interested to know if you have and tricks of
how to change the motor.I have a similar problem where water has got to the
motor, so I will have to change it myself sometime. How much did the motor
cost you ? Did you have to remove the glass ?
