Re: [summa-scientia] The symbolism of emerald

Just a few first impressions about your question regarding green...why green. Perhaps because green corresponds with Netzach (Tree of Life) which is green, which symbolizes Venus. Thus, integration of Mars (red) (male) and Venus (green) (female) equals gold (God)?  Gold is the Sun (Tiphareth) on the Tree of Life;  Mars plus Venus is divine union===Christed.

Hans:
Lovely, thanks for that Victoria! You have undoubtedly provided part of the answer. To me this is a new way of looking at red and green, but it's obvious when you think about it. Why, even the symbols for male and female are Mars and Venus! They have to be in balance. It's so intriguing to realise that Venus is the planet which polarises copper, whose oxide is green, and that Mars polarises iron, whose oxide is red(dish). Our blood is red because of the iron content!

This reminds me of what Jan van Rijckenborgh says about the divine human microcosm. There are two streams of energy emitted by the microcosm: Divine Love and Divine Omnipotence. There are two types of microcosm: one in which the stream of Love is positive and Omnipotence is negative, and one in which Love is negative and Omnipotence positive. These two microcosms are absolutely equal in every respect, but to accomplish the Divine Plan, these two inversely proportional polarisations are needed in the microcosms that carry out the Plan. That makes perfect sense to me.

Jan van Rijckenborgh talks about this in The Chinese Gnosis. Chapter 28-1 discusses Lao Tzu's verse: He who knows his masculine strength and yet keeps his feminine meekness is the valley of the kingdom.

He tells us that this inversely proportional polarisation results in the male and female form when the human beings express themselves in the physical world. He says, In the one form the masculine power, as the positive force, as the positive pole, dominates, while in the other form the feminine softness as the positive pole dominates. [...] By strength, the Gnostic philosophy means the monadic state of capability. The monad [microcosm] has a might faculty, a series of faculties to ensure the actualisation of the Divine Plan. The concept of meekness indicates the essential nature of the monad, in the sense of Jesus' saying "Learn from me that I am meek". This is the meekness of the love of God.

(This is my own translation as I haven't got an English copy at hand)

Van Rijckenborgh goes on to say that the divine omnipotence of the monad is represented by the original type of man, and the divine love by the prototype of the woman. However, remember that the opposite pole is present in each type of human being.

The monad therefore has an omnipotence and a radiation of love. However of these two, love is the greater, because without love divine omnipotence would not be able to develop.

The "valley of the kingdom" is an ancient Chinese indication of an alchemical laboratory. We meet this in Harry Potter too. Harry is born in Godric's hollow, indicating a small valley. This is where Voldemort tried to kill Harry, but failed.

Perhaps then Harry has green eyes because, as we hear so constantly in the books, love is the essence of his very blood. Voldemort's eyes are red because he is only interested in strength, in power. There is no good and evil, he says,  there is only power and those too weak to use it. This makes perfect sense. When Harry meets Voldemort again as a pupil at Hogwarts, and Voldemort tries to have him killed, a centaur tells us Mars is bright tonight. Wow, never a true word spoken.

Thanks again, Victoria. This needs more thinking, but I think we're discovering some exciting things.

Please everyone, see if you can join in with more views about this.

Love from Hans

PS On reading hte above, it looks a bit disjointed, but I hope it still makes sense. Feel free to send in your own summary.
