[summa-scientia] Re: Opinions

Is it possible to live without opinions? I am guilty and accused of suffering from such a hindrance. Every conversation is based around opinions, around divisions, associations and disassociations, likes and dislikes. Would it be possible to interact with other people without conversation? In an ideal world it would but in a working or social environment, how can we do it?

Hans:
Thanks for responding, Mike.

I would like to ask the other members of this group also to send in their thoughts about this important topic.

No one said the Path to Liberation is easy, but it's not difficult to understand.

1. Insight
2. Longing for Liberation
3. Self surrender
4. The new mode of life
5. Liberation

This is known as the Fivefold Universal Gnosis.

In this formula, insight means a deep realisation of the futility of life in this world. This realisation causes a seeking for the meaning of life, and so we could say the seeker is born in the person. Eventually the seeker comes to the conclusion that no solution is possible in any direction we seek outside of us, and that the only way open to us is the divine potential within. This is an earth shattering discovery, and leads to the seeker becoming very excited and eager to find out all he can about his own inner God. This is the beginning of what we call Longing, or Yearning, for Liberation, for God, for the Divine Life.

In Harry Potter the Divine Potential is symbolised by Lily, and the longing by James the Stag. As we know from the story, their marriage is consummated in the birth of a son, Harry.

This means that a new soul is born in the heart of the seeker. The Light shines in his heart for the first time, and this gives him the experience, the knowledge, that within him lives his 'beloved', the Other One, the Inner Christ.

If the yearning for True Life is strong enough, if the seeker is 'in love' sufficiently, he will have the strength and the willingness, in fact the will, to hand over the government of his life to the Other One. This is what we call 'self surrender.'

Self surrender means we let the new force in the heart rule our life. Once our life is ruled by the Other One, we can practise 'the new mode of life'. It is this mode of life, this total way of living according to God's will, that results in Liberation.

That's easily said, but is a life's work, or more. It's extremely radical. It's a total turn around of our way of living, of all our attitudes, of all our behaviour. Nothing is more radical than the new way of life. It's like uprooting a tree and sticking its roots in the sky so it gets its nourishment from heaven.

One of the roots that sticks into the earth to give nourishment to the tree is called opinions. The choice is ours. We either pull out all the roots, one by one, or we stay rooted to the spot. Not the tiniest little radicle can stay in the earth. That means, yes, sorry, but that means not taking part in discussions where opinions are exchanged. And because most people's discussions involves expressing opinions, earth binding desires, strong basic emotions etc, it does mean that we start excluding ourselves from many conversations. It does mean we could start losing friends.

Well, what did you think "giving up your life for My sake" means? It doesn't mean dying, it means pulling out your roots from the earth - which is immediately replaced by a root growing into heaven.

BUT. There's a very big 'but' here. A gigantic BUT!!

If we read this message and then say to ourselves, "Oh I see. I've got to eliminate conversations involving opinions. OK, I'll start doing it from now on," it won't achieve a thing!

Then it's just another dialectical root that grows to pull the tree more tightly to the earth. That's just living to rules. That's just the ego trying to get its fat bum in heaven. It argues that if opinions are earth binding, it must get rid of them to enter heaven.

You don't make a decision to stop expressing opinions. You allow your heart of hearts to rule you. Then it's not a question of not EXPRESSING opinions, it's a question of not HAVING them.

If you have a true longing to return to the arms of the Father like the prodigal son, then your thirsting heart will attract the Living Water to feed your new, incipient tree of life. This will feel like a soothing balm, like the quenching of a terrible thirst, like air to a drowning person.

It's a question of keeping this thirst prevailing in your consciousness. Be aware of it no matter what happens, and never let go. Let it be your last thought at night and your first thought when you wake up. Keep it in mind when you see your friends, when you go to a movie, or a party. If you do that, you will feel pain when an opinion you've got tries to enter your mind. This will pollute the pure living water your heart is receiving from the River of God. You'll have no trouble whatsoever in throwing all your opinions overboard as worthless and superfluous to your needs. In fact this will feel like a great relief. Liberating yourself from your opinions will be a significant step towards liberation.

So what's wrong? Why are we clinging on to our opinions?

It's probably because we haven't really made that decisive choice. We probably haven't decided, in total and utter commitment, to pull each and every one of our roots out and turn our gaze upwards. Have we really made the decision to burn our bridges behind us? Are we really ready to lose our friends if necessary, to change our lifestyle to suit the Other One, to start a totally new life?

If we have made that decision, if we really have jumped off into the deep end, in total self surrender, and we're still clinging on to the earth, then the problem must be that we're making the wrong choices. Then we need to go back to step one and look through all the steps again and test ourselves to see whether we have passed that stage.

The beauty about the four steps is that they don't end when the next step begins. In fact each step is reinforced by the opening up of the next one.

When we have insight into the futility of life here, and we begin to yearn for the pure astral substance of the Kingdom, insight doesn't stop. No, it grows in proportion to the growth of our yearning. And when our yearning results in self surrender, the yearning increases all the more, as does insight. When the self surrender causes us to live a new mode of life, all the preceding three steps increase in power.

So test your life, your everyday life, against these four steps. Clean up your life and make it easier for yourself. Make your home environment simple, clean and non distracting for the Great Work of transmutation. Set regular times for withdrawing from the world to pour out the longing in your heart, feeding your thirst and purifying your astral body. The purer and simpler your life the more easily you'll be able to stay in touch with the Other One.

Try to avoid situations which prevent you from staying in tune with the yearning in your heart. You can't hear Him in situations of noise, excitement, stress etc.

I want to say emphatically: if you want to enter Liberation, you've got to adapt your life to promote the growth of the Other One. That in itself doesn't give you liberation, but it removes the things that prevent the growth of Him. If you love the Other One; if he is the sole point of your life, you'll do everything and anything for Him!

Rusty cowboy Mike:
Still, having said all this, I cannot imagine how to put all this into our social context. Putting what we have just spoken about into practise is much easier said than done. I do not believe it is impossible but it is hard.

Hans:
Then make it easy for the Other One. Give him precedence in everything. Eliminate what resists his growth. Examine your dedication to the four steps. Make Liberation the number one priority in your life. Let the social context take second place. Never mind what other people think of you. The radiance of the New Soul will surround you and look after you. And stop thinking it's hard. Don't worry about whether it's easy or hard. Take it as a step which is the only way to go, and focus on the interests of the Other One.

May the Force be with you!

Love from Hans
