Widgets update

I just wanted to let you know that we have slightly updated the Mail Wizard, the Social Network Wizard and the GMail widget.
If you don't know the Mail Wizard, it is a handy widget that helps you set up an e-mail widget easily. It supports a dozen of providers around the world.
About the GMail widget, we have added the possibility to display the date each message.
We're still working on widgets, so expect more news soon. If you have suggestions, do not hesitate to leave us a comment.
Quality of service
On another topic, I would like to talk about the quality of the service.
Recently, we welcomed users that were looking for a replacement to their previous start page. Their old service had a severe outage and did not offer any export, forcing them to start from scratch. After this bad experience with another service, some of you wondered, legitimately, how a free service can offer a good quality of service.
At Netvibes, we are serious about your personal data. We handle it with extra care. Let me explain how.
Backup
The first thing we do, is make backups. We have two kinds of backups.
The first one is at the database level. The whole database is replicated to multiple servers. If the main one goes down, we can quickly switch to a backup
server without losing data.
The other one is at the account level. We create snapshots of your accounts periodically. If something goes wrong, we can go back in time and restore data.
Some of you experimented a problem with empty todo lists recently. Our technical team successfully recovered the lost widgets and sent them to those who wrote to our support team.
We are still working hard to improve those backups to make sure we can overcome any problem that could occur.
Data portability
At Netvibes, we believe in the open web and data portability. The service is built on open standards and we provide open APIs that anyone can use.
At any time, you can download a copy of your personal data, including:
- your RSS subscriptions as an OPML file;
- your bookmarks (located in the widget settings);
- your entire page. Our API allows you to retrieve your webnotes, your to-do lists, and all your widget list in a XML file.
All these files are using standard formats that you can read and reuse.
I hope that all these measures show how important your data are to us. We are working continuously to bring you the best service we can, for free.
Thank you for trusting us as your start page.
