Hi All,

Please repost this and spread the word. My movie Mad Bad is finally
getting finished. It's a movie about a car thief that steals a drug
dealer's car and finds himself being hunted by the dealer.

We start sound design on Monday. I need songs... lots of them... for
the movie. All kinds of songs are needed - primarily in the rock and
rockabilly genres - and no rap. Songs would need to be freebies,
though credit and soundtrack potential are there. Anyone wanting to
submit songs or CDs can email me at jon (at) highlandmyst.com to get
the mailing address.

Thanks!
Jon

Here is some information about a local film that some friends of mine
worked on.

"HATE CRIME"
www.hatecrimemovie.com

NEW YORK CITY
Reminder -- Hate Crime will open for a week beginning March 16 at the
Two Boots Pioneer Theater, "New York City's Showplace of Independent
Cinema". On March 17, there will be a special screening to benefit
the New York City Anti-Violence Project. The details are on the Hate
Crime homepage.

DALLAS
After New York, we're excited to announce that we'll be bringing the
movie back to Dallas for a run at the Magnolia Theater, beginning
April 27. We decided that Dallas is our best chance at building
momentum following New York. This Dallas engagement will be the key
factor in determining Hate Crime's future, so we're going to need all
the help we can get from those of you in Dallas, to fill the theater.
We're planning to mail out some materials to all of you North Texans
soon, along with an explanation of how you can help.

Life Is…

"Life Is…" is a World Apart Productions feature written and directed
by Robby Storey. The film follows the lives of multiple characters in
a series of interrelated romantic comedy vignettes. The film's
principle actors have already been cast, but the film is currently
seeking Extras talent and background actors.

"Life Is…" is a non-union film and extras are non-paid. However,
working as an extra is beneficial for any aspiring film actors as it
serves as an opportunity to meet local film makers, build your resume
and support the local industry.

With the script's format, you may be an extra in more than one scene.

"Life Is…" is currently in production and is looking for extras
talent on the following days at these locations:

BIRTHDAY

BIRTHDAY is the second short in the Dying Sacraments Trilogy written
and directed by Frank Mosley. Set in July 1945, the film's plot
centralizes around the creation of the atomic bomb. The story
explores the themes of responsibility and inevitability in the life of
a man working for The Manhattan Project. A sad ballad of fate,
choice, creation, and destruction .

BIRTHDAY is a non-union film with deferred payment. Actors involved
will receive full credit and a copy of the work. This also serves as
an excellent opportunity to showcase a different style of your acting
capability: these characters' vulnerabilities are essential in
creating the tension in this film. A film whose story has to be told
just as much with silence, physicality, and eyes, as much as it is
told with dialogue. We will be looking for what individual actors
bring to the character with anything as a possibility.

Characters

Mr. Michael Morse – Caucasian, Mid-twenties to early thirties
everyman. Works for a government war branch. Although he is young
and attractive, he looks a little worn. A performance that ranges
from subtlety to extreme angst and pain.

Mrs. Mary Morse – Caucasian, Early twenties to early thirties, pretty
but not necessarily gorgeous. The character goes through a range of
emotion as well: one specific scene involves her giving birth to her
son in a hospital room .

Michael Morse, Jr. (2-4 years old) – The son of Michael and Mary
Morse. Adorable and easily fascinated, he represents the embodiment
of innocence.

Lt. General Leslie Groves (VO) – A gruff-voiced individual who is also
a tough leader. By the book and to the point. Although has little
screen time, his voice plays a major character in the production.

Leslie the Nurse (VO) – Head nurse of Trinity Hospital with a calm,
soothing voice and cheerful personality.

Doctor Price – Head doctor at Trinity Hospital. Methodical, soothing,
and professional.

Nurses (3) – Silent roles. Nurses assisting Dr. Price when the
pregnancy is complicated.

Mary and Michael's stand-ins

BIRTHDAY will be shot on HD Film in Arlington throughout the weekends
of April 22/23 and 29/30. The open casting call will take place on
March 17, 18, 19, and 24 with possible call backs on March 25/26.
Our casting location is UTA FINE ARTS BUILDING, ROOM 164, corner of
UTA Blvd. and Cooper St.

Send Headshot and Resumes to Michael Magnus, re: BIRTHDAY, P.O. Box
864557, Plano, TX 75086. If you have any questions, contact Michael
Magnus at magaracasting@... (magaracasting (at) gmail (dot) com).

You will be contacted to arrange an appointment.

STORY LINE: Two killers turn the tables on a trio of
robbers when they find themselves in a hostage situation.
Surrounded by the police, the robbers must become the
heroes and save the hostages before they are executed.

MARY JANE (25-30): A young waitress working in the Desert
Wind Cafe, she is a smart, quick-thinking woman. Formerly
in nursing school, she tends to a wounded Nadia. Later,
she comes up with a ploy to get her hands on a gun...LEAD
(6)
KARL (30-40): A gruff ruffian in jeans, boots, a shirt and
jacket, he is a cold-stone creep, a vicious, soul-less
man. Karl and his equally notorious partner, Max, are
known as the "Blood Brothers." Both have done it all --
drugs, human trafficking, and murder. He seizes the
opportunity when a trio of robbers show up at the cafe
where he's hanging out, quickly divesting Sam and his
cohorts of their stolen money and taking everyone in the
place hostage...LEAD (6)

MAX (30-40): Although they are called the Blood Brothers,
Max is more of Karl's sidekick than partner. Not the most
intelligent monkey on the block, Max needs a leader and
has found it in Karl. Max is high-strung and makes himself
appear more dangerous by his genuinely crazed personality.
He follows Karl's lead on everything until Karl turns on
his friend…SUPPORTING (6)

DETECTIVE CATHERINE PULLIAM (30-40): Catherine is a
Robbery & Homicide Detective and Rick Devlin's partner.
She is a good compliment to Rick's abrasiveness as they
play the good cop/bad cop game well. Her distain of Lind
brings great support in a deadly showdown on the
street…SUPPORTING (9)

MIRIAM (45-55): Gruff, independent and confident, Miriam
believes herself greater than any man. She doesn't like
being pushed around and says so. Unfortunately, her bark
is worse than her bite and she often tries to help out
strays. She pushes Karl's buttons one too many times,
which leads her to support Sam and Nadia's plans for
rescue…SUPPORTING (6)

ALICE (30-35): A fairly straight-laced, middle class
mother. She has a clearly defined value system that falls
in line with the rest of the middle class norm that
surrounds her. To Alice, most things are black and white,
good and evil, right and wrong. She becomes the voice that
brings out the sympathetic motivations behind Sam and
Nadia's robbery… SUPPORTING (6)

JENNY (10-12): Alice's daughter, Jenny has a level of
maturity that exceeds her age. One moment she holds the
naivety and wonderment of a child, and the next moment
displays a maturity or intelligence that shocks those
around her. Jenny grows to completely trust Sam and so her
fear is replaced with courage. Her bravery allows the
robbers to contact the world outside the café and let the
police know what is really happening…SUPPORTING (6)

HAROLD (50-60): A simple, friendly and caring man who is a
regular at the Desert Wind Café. With devastating
consequences, Karl uses Harold to show the police how
life-threatening the situation really is… SUPPORTING (6)

SGT. McCREA (35-45): A uniformed officer and veteran of
the force, McCrea has more war stories than most offices
can imagine. Because of this, McCrea is not easily
intimidated which makes him cool and surprisingly jovial
in crisis situations. He tends to be an anchor for those
around him. He is in charge of the uniformed officers
outside the cafe…SUPPORTING (9)

CAPTAIN BURLESON (40-50): Captain Burleson wears nice
suits, attends dinner functions and tries to keep looking
good in front of the press. He is a man determined to
climb into politics and believes that image is everything.
As Rick and Catherine's superior, he is at constant odds
between Rick's need to run this investigation and Duca's
financial power over the local government…FEATURED (26)

BILL (30-40): Bill is Frank James to Sam's Jesse. He
appears a bit more educated than Sam, though he will
always defer to Sam as his position of leadership holds
that honor. Bill is actually a hired gun by Rick to watch
over this little gang so his motivations for assisting at
all costs are to protect Rick's investment. He is one of
the first to die when Karl and Max turn the tables on the
robbers…FEATURED (1)

OFFICER #1: A clean cut, uniformed cop who will run the
command center and handle communications between the
robbers and police…FEATURED (13)

OFFICER #2: An up and coming leader amongst the uniformed
officers, this cop handles a lot of the leg work for the
detectives…FEATURED (16)

DUCA'S MANAGER (40-50): A sweaty, weasel of a man who
drinks alone on Saturday nights and is eaten away by guilt
and fear. He knows about Duca's terrorist dealings but
stays quiet out of fear of Duca and a sizeable payoff…3
SCENES (1)

BUD (35-45): Bud is the meanest of the gang. He is purely
motivated by greed. Though he follows Sam's lead, Bud is
the heavy hand of the group, willing to expend violence
upon innocent bystanders. He dies in a shootout with the
police… 2 SCENES (1)

http://qotile.net/twimages/p_sxsw.jpg

Treewave is a two piece band from Texas that make electronic songs
using obsolete computer and video game equipment as instruments.
Paul Slocum codes the music primarily on an Atari 2600, Commodore
64, Compaq 286, and Epson dot matrix printer, and Lauren Gray adds
lush vocals.

During performances, Tree Wave's Atari and C64 code outputs
programmed visuals that are synchronized to the music. Video output
from the Atari is displayed on a video projector, and the
Commodore's video is shown on a television. The printer is also used
live and prints patterns while playing rhythmic and melodic parts of
the songs. The music is probably more organic than you'd expect from
the instrumentation.

For fans of Morr Music, MBV, Stereolab, My Bloody Valentine, old-
skool Flowchart, etc etc. Although definitely electronic sounding,
the music is influenced more by guitar based bands and experimental
music than dance. ISAN is a fan too! "it isn't the bleep and bloop-
fest you might expect, it is really quite lush...." www.treewave.com

6) ^paul paredes^
http://stat.discogs.com/A/t/166944-1098533974.jpg

Paul Paredes has been spreading his gift of good ear to the house
massive since the early nineties. Paul is best known in Dallas for
having one of the longest running weekly parties called Select @ The
Ruby Room & Red Jacket where sets by DJ greats such as Derrick
Carter, Mark Farina, DJ Heather and Diz were a standard. In 2002,
Paul moved to California to focus on his career as a music producer
and started releasing singles under the name "Midas" , his San Diego
based production trio with Scott Pace & Thomas Sahs and as the
Dallas based group "Lavish Habits" with Mike Constantino and
vocalist Red Eye.

With over a dozen releases in the last 2003, Paul has gained
nternational recognition as a producer. His early releases granted
him great response from top djs & producers around the world. Mark
Farina stated in DJ mag that the Midas EP was "Best Record of the
WMC" with the standout track being one from Lavish Habits. After
recently returning from a tour in Australia & New Zealand , Paul is
back in Texas working on a Lavish Habits album and a full schedule
of original material & remixes for artists such as Brett Johnson,
Vernon & DaCosta and the Lil' Beasties.

7) ^Sal a.k.a. Oddjob^
The only picture found online of Sal was from at least 10 years ago
on an old Raid-5 who's who of Dallas djs & promoters. He's still
rocking the decks all over the state, playing his own unique blend
of sultry downtempo, acid jazz, reggae & a little undeniable flavor
that keeps heads bobbing & people dancing late into the night.

8) ^john walker^
http://www.djjohnwalker.com/images/me030405.jpg

Even after being introduced to the underground dance culture in
1994, it wasn't until after his relocation to Dallas in 1997 that he
discovered his love for house music. That next year he and his
roomate would purchase their first set of Technics, and soon after
he was dj'ing around town under the moniker "turn@round". His energy
behind the decks along with a little help from a few close friends
pushed him into the limelight and by the end of 2001 he was
headlining gigs overseas. The next couple of years were spent
holding down several of Dallas' most respected weeklies, playing
alongside some of the most influential names in house music today.
2004 started off with Mr. Walker shifting gears to producer,
releasing his debut album, "the turnaround ep" on Fair Park
Recordings. The release was a success, receiving heavy rotation from
jocks all over, as well as a positive write up in XLR8R magazine.

Mustafa was introduced into the dance subculture in 1988. After
that, he was dancing 'til dawn at the after-hour acid house loft
spaces and warehouses. From that point on he always kept his ear to
the ground for the unmistakable pulse of the underground. Shortly
thereafter, he went on to contribute to events for 13 different
promotion Crews in this city over a period of years (Hazy Daze,
Purple Dimension, True Family, Jumble Tribe, Mixtec, Valence, Full
Circle, Protoype, Glass Bead Players).

It was during a period of heavy visual activity as "Professor
Wrinklescreen" that Mustafa began to spin in chill-out areas. These
were usually found outdoors during festival events. "Used to, a
chill out space was mandatory for a party, legal or otherwise. You
needed a place to depressurize properly and socialize. There was a
greater respect for other types of electronic music back then. And
when I say `electronic music' I don't just mean electronic DANCE
music. Now, the only time you get that downtempo sound is when you
play outdoors, i.e., when the promoter can afford a second system
financially and spatially."

The works of Bill Laswell and Coil influence him the most. Just
between those two artistic behemoths there are hundreds of releases
spanning 20 + years utilizing state of the art technology with a
deeply Gnostic esthetic. Mustafa's sound was said to have as many
admirers as it did detractors. His usage of noise or unconventional
musical structures was felt to be anathema by many beat-driven kids,
but the sheer oddness of the track selection paired with a real
sensitivity to the music being played also gained him a handful of
admirers amongst the more experienced promoters and audience
members. He plays precisely what he wants and never regrets it. "I
cater to the audience every time I play, just not to what they want.
I cater to what they should understand and don't – that the Universe
is musical and the standard four on the floor fascist groove thang
just don't cut it in my visioning of that Universe.'" However vocal
he was about dance music, Mustafa could be found at most parties
dancing the night away.

10) ^sean anderson^
http://www.hdrecordings.com/artists/greygreen.jpg

Sean was a 7-year Dj veteran of the vibrant Dallas electronic music
scene and an avid guitar player and jazz enthusiast. Sean's love of
the intricacies of tech house and older electro evolved into the
Grey project with partner Eric Reeves that focuses more on warm
atmospheres and quirky embellishments.
Grey's first collaborative project came over a year later when
Chicago-based titan Guidance Recordings released the "Solid
Foundations EP", debuting the duo's four-track diversity. Shortly
after followed another project by the two, to be released on their
own Harmonious Discord imprint in November of 2003 called "N(ua)ghty
Glances".

In addition to the focused group projects, the future of the Grey
collaboration is forthcoming releases on labels like Chalant, Fair
Park, and Frick n' Frack as well as many more releases on the
Harmonious Discord label leave little time for looking back as the
project continues with force and drive to provide a different shade
of music to a thriving medium. www.hdrecordings.com/

Sona has only been spinning for four years, but he is quickly and
aggressively making his mark on the Dallas/Fort Worth scene and
beyond. his unique style of blending sultry downtempo with upbeat
trip hop tunes is catching the attention of club goers and promoters
all over the United States and beyond. His club gigs have included
various venues in Dallas, Sake on 6th in Austin, The Underground in
Kansas, Le Fabrique in Tokyo, and MIKL in Kyoto.

His musical influences include Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Derrick
Carter, Mark Farina, DJ Heather, Phil Weeks. His current
affiliations are with Grin Music and De Greenhouse Productions. He
is most definitely one of Dallas' finest dj's, and will be a
household name in the years to come. www.djsona.tk

[PAULA] (30-35) The attractive young mother of Zack (and Sarah),
recently
divorced, administrator for a nursing home. Paula is ready to start
dating again, even
if she doesn't realize it, and has a progressive, generally upbeat
attitude towards
life...LEAD. STAR NAME PREFERRED.

[ZACK] (10) A curious, well-adjusted young boy who is seeking to
find his place in
the world. Zack is fascinated by astronomy, loves dogs and has a
typically
contentious relationship with his big sister...LEAD

[SARAH] (15) Paula's pretty teenage daughter who is rarely seen
without her iPod
and sunglasses. She's convinced that a small scar near her eye makes
her
undesirable. Sarah is a bit a drama queen, but hey. She's a
teenager. She is also a
trained dancer...LEAD

[DOCTOR JEFF] (30-35) A youthful doctor with a whimsical attitude,
who wears jeans
to work and rides a motorcycle. He comes from a well-to-do family
but finds pleasure
in simpler things, like a day in the country. He becomes
romantically interested in
Paula...LEAD. STAR NAME PREFERRED.

[CAPTAIN PETE] (70-85) A very old man, Captain Pete behaves like an
old sea
captain, though it's by no means clear that he's ever been to sea.
He is full of sage
advice and a spry attitude, though he realizes he doesn't have much
time left...STAR
CAMEO

[FRANCIS] (19) A troubled young man, angry at the world but
attractive in that "bad
boy" way. He's a talented guitar player. Francis might straighten
out if he ever lets
down his defenses and allows someone to love him...LEAD. COMEDY
TIMING IS A
MUST.

[LEO] (20) A good-natured lug, not especially sharp; he tags along
with Francis,
though he is not a criminal at heart...LEAD

[NURSE MOLLY] (50s) A stern, stern-looking spinster who suffers from
constant
migraines and takes it out on the residents of the nursing home
where she
works...LEAD

[JOSH] (17) LEGAL 18 TO PLAY YOUNGER. A high school jock with a
sweet side;
probably one of the more popular kids in school, but that sort of
thing doesn't matter
to him. Josh becomes fascinated with the quirky Sarah...LEAD

STORY LINE: A fresh start in a small town is rife with the
possibility for transplanted
PAULA and her two children. Life becomes increasingly intriguing
after young ZACK
stumbles upon a box full of abandoned puppies, unaware of just how
special these
dog are...
