Robert,
That's a tough one! On the one hand I'm all for kids getting involved
in Historical wargames, having introduced my girlfriend's lad to DBA
when he was 8 (The small armies and playing area, along with the
simple rules make DBA the perfect introduction to "real" wargames)
Unfortunately, DBMM, whilst ultimately having developed from DBA, is
a different beast altogether - often making 38 year old, never mind 8
year old, brains hurt.
I'm in no way trying to put you off bringing him along; I just
wouldn't want to destroy his nascent interest by overwhelming him
with the complexities of DBMM.
For example:
DBA combat: roll a die, add a number, compare results, win lose or
draw - apply outcome.
DBMM combat: roll a die, add a number, compare results, modify number
dependent on grading factors, compare again, win, lose or draw -
apply outcomes determined by who's turn it is etc, etc..
hugs
Bob
