What's the matter with me
maybe mamma never raised me well
Yo my favourite excuse
But what's the use if I'm under your spell

Baby please let me go
Lord I know!

She made me do it, yeah she made me do it
But I knew all along
She made me do it
I didn't wanna do it
Lord I knew I was wrong

What's the matter with you
Did your daddy never show you how
act like a lady baby
yo' the habit I can't break right now

Baby please let me go
Lord I know!

She made me do it...

The tent of the Zeltspektakel is still closed when I arrive, but
it's a nice queuing in the sunshine with a beer and the soundcheck
of The Urge in the background.

The place is filled up fast with - rather young- Gary Moore -fans.
30 mins later I see the guys preparing besides the stage. Announced
as the supportact of the supportact, they get a warm applause when
they come on.
Jonny Boyle wants to take a picture of the crowd before he
starts, 'to make his mum happy' and they are more than willing to
shout 'hey mum!'.

They Urge plays a great gig and the audience just love every second
of it! They leave the stage under lots of chearing.

Almost two hours later, Gary Moore is doing his thing and I see
Jonny next to the PA. Then Gary Moore asks his 'good friend Jonny
Boyle from The Urge' on stage to sing a song along. The temperature
is rising and when the song is finished the place is even hotter and
wilder than before!

Afterwards at the merchandise store, Jonny is telling his friends in
the band about his moment, experiencing it all again,... 'what a
great honour!'.

Fans come over to buy a shirt or the cd, meeting up with the
guys.... Before I know, it's time to say goodbye.

The Urge Debut Album "Lunch at the Ladygarden" Premieres July 13,
2007

Just in time for the kick-off of their German tour, The Urge are
releasing their first album, "Lunch at the Ladygarden." The debut by
the four rockers from Newcastle is already causing a sensation on
the German rock scene.

True to their motto "If you don't know the past, you can't rock the
future," the music by the band, which is fronted by John Miles, Jr.,
combines classic rock 'n' roll tradition with hard rock elements.

The Urge's music appeals to older rock fans, as well as a younger
retro-oriented audience

In addition to its influence on their musical direction, tradition
plays a particularly important role for the UK's newest rock export
in another way. In 1966, the legendary John Miles used the name "The
Urge" for his first band.

Almost 40 years later when his son John Miles Jr. joined up with
drummer Simon Ferry, they quickly adopted the Miles Sr.'s band name,
wrote a couple of really good songs, and teamed up with Jonny Boyle
and bassist Neil Harland.

And their fans aren't the only ones who are hooked. When the band
finished its initial recordings for the debut album, they sent a
copy to Brian Johnson, AC/DC's singer. He was so impressed that he
immediately recorded the song "Blue Steel" with The Urge.

Hamm allgem.

erste Album "Lunch at the Lady Garden" heute veröffentlicht.

The Hooters Sa. 14.07.07

Honberg-Sommer

Support: The Urge

zahlreicher zeitloser Hits wie „All You Zombies", „And We
Danced", „Day By Day", „Johnny B." oder „500 Miles".

Künstler geschrieben haben (so etwa Cyndi Laupers Welterfolg „Time
After Time", Ricky Martins „Private Emotion" oder Joan Osbournes
Grammy nominierten Song „One Of Us"). Rob Hyman (Gesang, Keyboards,
Bandgeschichte markierte der 13.Juli 1985: The Hooters eröffneten

eigentlich sogar zum dritten Mal, denn 2005 rockten The Hooters

''The Urge'' rockt beim Hammer Summer 5

auf: "The Urge".

von "The Urge" mit dem Titel "Lunch At The Lady Garden" (Big Lake)
The Proms" ist.
Sprösslings in Hamm angekündigt.

17.45 Uhr The Urge, 18.30 Uhr Nevio, 20.10 Uhr Asher Lane, 21.40 Uhr
2raumwohnung, 23.20 Uhr The Hooters

Kurz vor 1.00 Uhr wird dann die 5. Auflage des Hammer Summer enden.

The Urge - Live!

Yay! Just returned from a concert in Bonn. Actual line-up
were "Johnny & Edgar Winter + Rick Derringer & Band" but the real
hightlight was their support band "The Urge". The guys made
fantastic show. Really cool songs which rocked our asses off!
Additionally (thanks to their management from Music Networx) Tommy
and me had the chance to take some photos of The Urge during their
gig - not only from within the audience but as well from the press
pit. Wow that was really great. I think I was albe to take some nice
shots - I'll post some pics from the concert the next days... Till
then enjoy their songs from their myspace site.

And as if this isn't enough, we met the band live after their gig
and had some drinks with them. Yes! You are reading correctly..
havin' drinks with Jonny, John, Simon and Neil - we had ton of fun
and these guys are really nice and cool. I'm looking forward to
their new album "Lunch At The Ladygarden" which will be released end
of june/beginning of july.

Guys... you did a great show!

The Urge - Das Debütalbum "Lunch At The Ladygarden" erscheint am 13.
Juli 2007

Not sure what you mean, but the cd has been recorded, printed....
the artwork for the cd is also done, so in 'bout 2 or 3 weeks the cd
will be released in the stores and online.

Thank you :-)))
Is it possible that John Miles - son is born at the same day as his father - on the 23rd of April - surely other year :-) ? And maybe that's why has carry the same name?
Who knows whatmore they have to do about this coming CD if it already recorded?...

Very curiouse to see the final result...

A lot of success!!!

Simon (Bash or Dudley to his friends) was born in Gateshead, near
Newcastle. He first picked up a pair of drum sticks at the age of 8.
His grandfather had been a musician playing all sorts of instruments
(drums/piano/guitar/banjo/violin).

When he went to secondary school he started getting lessons from the
local drum teacher. This gave him a grounding of reading music. He
was trained in classical and jazz music playing in his school and
county bands. It was in school that he met Neil Harland. Neil was
another pupil in the same year group as Simon with the same love of
music. They worked together in several school and county bands which
resulted in a trip to Germany for both of them at the age of 14.
This was a band exchange to a school in Munchengladbach. It was
around then that he had to choose between football and music as he
had previously also been playing football for the school and the
county. Both commitments were difficult to balance. Thankfully, the
music won.

Once Simon left school, he studied Art, Surveying and Engineering
Drawing at a local college. He had to wait until he was 18 years old
to get into the Music College. Once he was old enough he attended a
Music College in Newcastle studying a Music Degree in Light Music.
As well as specialising in Drums and Percussion, he also studied
composition and arranging. He also studied other instruments
(piano/guitar/bass) whilst there.
Once he graduated college, he hit the road, working with various
bands and playing on many, many shows. When he started Music
College, he had met a singer song writer called Ian McCallum (who
now works with Stiff Little Fingers). Now that he was out of
education, he could concentrate his efforts on this project. The
band (McCallum) recorded 3 albums and several singles. The last
album was produced by Jake Burns (SLF). Once the band went their
separate ways Ian moved to the USA and started working with Jake.

Again, Simon continued to work freelance doing session work and also
managed to fit some time into giving local students drum lessons.
During this period, Simon also helped out The Whiskey Priests with
some European tours until they could find a new drummer.
Then along came The Proud Ones. This was a band formed by two local
Newcastle guys (one who'd engineered one of McCallum's albums). They
recorded an album, an EP and a single. They supported David Bowie
for a show in England and played in the USA and Asia.

Once again, Simon returned to session work and through a long term
friend and colleague (Brendan Healy), was introduced to John Miles
Senior and Brian Johnson. Whilst John was home from his world tours,
he had wanted to do some gigs with Brendan in England. Simon was
delighted to work on these projects over the next few years. It was
on one of these projects that he met John Miles Junior. John had
moved back to Newcastle from London and his father asked him to play
in the show. Simon was blown away by John Jnr's playing and they hit
it off straight away. They found they had the same interests in
music and became good friends on and off stage.
It was approaching the end of the year and much socialising had gone
on. Both John and Simon were working on lots of different projects.
Simon then thought, "Hey, we're both working on our different
projects with other people, we should do our own!" This was the
birth of The Urge (although at this point the name hadn't been
thought of yet).

In January (as the new year started), Simon and John started writing
together producing their first demo's of this rocking new sound.
During this time they found Jonny Boyle (through a recommendation by
Neil Harland). Jonny had exactly the voice they were looking for to
fit their sound. Jonny also brought his writing abilities to some of
the tracks and so the album was complete. During the recording of
the album, Brian Johnson was in Newcastle visiting Brendan and
popped in to see how the recording was going. He loved it and gave
the boys so much encouragement. Once the album had been recorded and
mastered the band had to start to gig and approach companies. When
it came to playing live, they needed to find a Bass player. Neil
Harland was the first call. And so the adventure began.
It took quite some time from Simon's and John's original concept to
the point that the band was ready to be launched on the world.
During this time, the band members continued their work with other
artists. Simon performed on Top Of The Pops, The V Festival, T4 On
The Beach (and other TV shows) and continued touring with other
bands.
Finally, after finding the right management company and record
label, Simon is so pleased that The Urge is ready to take on the
world.

Hello everybody,

Last month I sow for first time live "The Urge Official" playing in
Cologne, Germany at the " Rock Legends Adventure's show".
I still have the feeling as it was yesterday, it was very
impressive.
In two words I can say that I enjoyed their performance from the
first till the very last note they sung and played.

I could arrive there just few minutes before the start of the
concert.
As first all the coming participating guests got pictured by their
entrance in the Balloni Hallen, which are situated right in the
heart of Cologne, very easy to reach.
The show was in a great hall with nice stage.
There was reception before the concert and I sow a lot of crowd was
already there and still coming.
" The Urge Official", Bobby Kimball (TOTO), John Miles, Miller
Anderson ( (Spencer Davis Group, Keef Hartley Band), Paul Thompson
(Bryan Ferry, Roxy Music), Ollie Marland (Tina Turner, John Miles,
Cher), all guests and participants were there talking with each
other, a bit nervous probably, expecting the start of the concert
and the joyful musical moments which had to come. (
http://www.rocklegendsadventure.com/kuenstler.php)

When the show started it was really nice to see the hilarious final
result of this First Musical Rocking Legends Adventure week with the
new program which they did created in Cologne.
The work with all the Rock Legends and the professional Band Coaches
which were the musicians from UK band " The Urge Official"
there brought more then excellent results!
Even we could feel the happy mood, the satisfaction of giving so
much from their own life experience, the feeling of getting the
deserved respect and satisfaction.
Singing with young, enthusiastic people, feeling at their best and
being appreciated and enjoyed so much was the special touch which
the public virtually loved.

Bobby Kimball (TOTO), Miller Anderson ( (Spencer Davis Group, Keef
Hartley Band), Paul Thompson (Bryan Ferry, Roxy Music), Ollie
Marland,
John Miles as always gave perfect performance - singing, playing,
multiple talent from each side to be seen! It was great to see all
of this great artists making music together!
The mixture of the Rock Legends singing together with the
participants, which were very good amateurs I find (!) made this gig
very special for everyone in the Balloni Hall in Cologne.
They performed songs from the repertoires of Tina Turner, TOTO, John
Miles, etc..
All songs coming one after the other made the gig hot in very
dynamic way...

At certain moment on stage came "The Urge Official"- Newcastle's
newest and hottest rock band, who came together under a year ago and
have already recorded their debut album!
They presented few songs of their new coming in June CD "Lunch at
the Lady-garden", it became real bum on stage!
All the public was dancing and jumping when suddenly John Miles Jr.
dedicated one of their songs from their album, to his wife: "Forever
and a Day" ( BTW my favorite song which is uploaded there and I
listen to it each time I go to read about their coming news /
concerts on their website at MySpace.
Everybody was moved by his announcement - was that true or just a
joke (?!?) , I do not really know... The song is really nice if you
like to hear it on their web space:

www.myspace.com/theurgeofficial

All the boys playing in the band did great job during the evening -
"The Urge Official" - Simon Ferry, Neil Harland, Jonny Boyle and
John Miles Jnr. - they Rocked!!

Then little by little all artists and amateurs came back on stage.
To see John Miles playing or singing also next to his son John Miles
Jr. and their new band "The Urge Official" was fantastic!
The atmosphere became electric and it finished with nice slow song
which calmed down the public a bit.

What was remarkable was how happy and generous were all the people
from the public between themselves about making pictures or filming
the artists, what was permitted in advance from the organizers!
That was very nice moment given to us from the organization, on
which has to be given an special accent, as it brought very friendly
and pleasant moments in between all of the rest of that wonderful
evening.

Just at the end suddenly I got urgent call so I had to go out for a
moment and when I came back in the Balloni Hall was completely
different picture - dancing, drinking , talking with each other, all
happy people at the " VIP - After show party" ( we were all VIPs,
lol), also dancing around the many bars for all kind of drinks.

There was a lot of enthusiasm coming from all sides - all
participants, "The Urge Official", the Rock Legends in real and
their public, all hot songs and fantastic performances which I hope
will be possible to get on DVD very soon as there were 3 video
cameras to record it, all was filmed and it is surely worth to buy
it!

For me personally this DVD would be best souvenier, I see it also as
a promotional material for the next coming editions of this great
Rock Adventure's night...

It was miraculous, very successful and joyful rock concert
where "The Urge Official" warmed up all the atmosphere with their
Rock songs and which was real blessing!!!

Sincerely yours,

Amira

Hi Kel.
I came across The Urge on MySpace.
I was drawn to their music from day one.
True grit Rock! is the only way to describe them.
I hope to see them live one day soon.

Hi,

I saw The Urge on their very first gig in Jesmond, UK, and they just
blew me off my feet!
I'm a musicaddict and see a lots of gigs during a year and for me
this gig was the best one in the last 5 years I've seen (even better
than U2). So I tried to keep up with them, see if they played more
gigs...
Being from another country, it's not so easy to follow up. So I
missed a gig in Newcastle that same year, figured out that a couple
of months later they would play in Cologne, Germany, but had to
work, so missed that one too.

Luckely for me, John stayed in touch, let me know about their myspace
and life became a bit easier :)
In mean time, I saw them in Oberursel near Frankfurt last month,
where they had an gig for the NewcomerTV, wich you can see at the
videoclip in the links.
Missed the gigs in Bonn and Cologne, 'cause of work, but I 'm
looking forward to see one of their gigs on their summertour.

Meanwhile, at the end of this month the album 'lunch at the
ladygarden' will be released and on the links you'll find two
photoclips with a song each of that album.

Browse around the links, the different photoalbums to get an idea
who they are, what they stand for, visit their websites and
hopefully, you get the urge to see them on a gig!

The gestation of the The Urge began when guitarist John Miles Jnr
got together with drummer Simon Ferry. The pair had been working
together with Geordie legend Brendan Healey's Big Band; the equally
legendary John Miles Snr spotted Simon at one of their gigs and
drafted him into his band. John Jnr discovered that he and Simon had
similar tastes and influences and decided to have a go at writing
some songs. "We just clicked," says Miles and the songs just came
rattling out.

"We both love rock music and always went for the same albums on the
tour bus. The Stones, Zeppelin - classic rock really - we wanted to
write songs in that vein. On the other hand we didn't just want to
just make a noise, we wanted to write great songs with strong
melodies."

With several songs, many lacking lyrics, under their belts the hunt
was on for a singer. "We didn't really look far," says Miles. "I'd
worked with Jonnie Boyle and he's not only got a great pair of lungs
on him, he's one of the best show-men I've ever seen. He was the
first choice and when he heard the songs he agreed to join
immediately. He came up with some great lyrics straight away."

Recording started at Wild Trax studio, with Frankie Gibbon
producing, in April. In three short months the album was virtually
finished. The band sent a copy to AC/DC singer Brian Johnson, who
was so knocked out he asked if he could duet on Blue Steel. The
final mixes were done with Miles Snr at the desk.

The Urge had recorded the album with a session bass player, but they
needed someone permanent for live work. Neil Harland, who had been
at school with Simon and played with most of the band in various
outfits, heard the album and jumped at the chance to join the line-
up.

So what about the record? The band's story of the genesis of some of
the songs says it all. She Made Me Do It is a track John wrote with
Simon after hearing Aerosmith on the radio. "It's a great rock song
with a full horn section and is also the first song Jonnie wrote
with us, As soon as he heard the backing track he came up with a
killer melody then some cool lyrics, (the title refers to his usual
excuse to his girlfriend after some indiscretion when he gets
drunk.) As soon as we demo'd it with him we knew we had something
good.

"We went on to write Where Do We Go From Here, Blue Steel and Lonely
Road and it soon became apparent that we had our own sound - a
fusion of our favourite bands, Zeppelin, The Faces, AC/DC, Bad
Company and Aerosmith, but still with our own character. Of the
newer bands we like Velvet Revolver and Jet, great songs with
attitude. After hearing Jonnies vocal range we put Dude Looks Like A
Lady on the album. We all loved the song but never thought we would
find anyone who could sing it. Dude gave us the chance to use the
horn section again, which we ended up featuring on several more
tracks as it makes for a huge sound."

Paddy Macdee has already played 2 songs on his Radio Newcastle show
and has had been inundated with callers asking who it is. With the
band playing their first gig on March 5th at The People's Theatre in
Jesmond, it won't be long before everyone is getting The Urge.
