Hello Lisa(and everyone) my name is Nicola and I have a gorgeous step
daughter who is 10 years old. She has been diagnosed with Semantic
Pragmatic Disorder and also ASD. I'm still quite new to the Main Project
and have only met A nna once. However I have to say she was so lovely
when I did meet her that I felt I'd known her for years. My partner and
I share custody of our daughter which means we generally have her about
3 days a week. My little girl attends mainstream school and has 10 hours
a week one to one support. At present we are in the process of trying to
get more hours for her, I'm sure it will be a long and complicated
process. I seem to spend hours on the computer looking on various
websites for information on SPD and ASD that I will be able to
understand but it all seems like double dutch to me. A lot of the time I
feel guilty, I wish I could do more to give her the best life ever. I
would'nt change things for the world though. I feel so lucky to be
involved in the life of such a wonderful little girl. Anyway I think
I've waffled on for quite enough. Oh by the way this is my first
computer and I'm totally clueless on how to do most things. So if
there's any messages that don't make sense they'll probably be from me.
I apologise in advance and can only say I'll try my very best not to
make too many mistakes. It's been lovely talking to everybody, thanks for
listening to me ramble on and on. Speak to you soon love Nicola xx

Hello, so sorry to anyone who expected social club to be on tonight!!!!
Lynne got a phone call 30 mins before it was due to start, cancelling
the club because builders were in painting and walls were not dry!
Shame we didn't get more notice. I know it is very difficult for us and
our users when things change at the last moment, so a big SORRY to
everyone.

Hi,
There is a parent to parent conference being organised by parent for
parents in Middlesbrough and similar event being organised for parents
in Redcar and Cleveland. We have a date for the Mbro one on 19th
November, as soon as i have the flyer i will post it on our
website.Looks like Redcars may be the week after. We are really excited
about it as its a way for parents to get their views heard about
services we would like to see- a wish list really. We need as many
parents as poss to attend, the more there are the bigger the voice.

Hi Anna

I'd suggest the bahamas but I expect that may be a little beyond our means??

I know Alton Towers went down well, but it is a long trip - I've always found Lightwater Valley to be extremely helpful, and really good value for money, and also very good with the exit passes. Depending on the ages have you ever been to Magna (Rotherham) ? It's a hands on scientific huge (really huge)  old steel foundry, with a huge playground outside. It is on three floors with loads of great exhibitions and things to do, and cheap! It's got loads of sensory activities, particularly in the water zone.

I guess for me, an ideal trip would be one with lots of different activities within a reasonable budget entry-wise, I could name about 12 in the South West, but I am still finding my way around here. I did take my lot to Scarborough a few weeks ago to go to the waterpark - to find it has been demolished - so that's one less place available. Had lovely day on the beach instead!!
Be interesting to see what ideas other people come up with.

Lis :)

Hi everyone - thought I'd pop the first post on to get the ball
rolling. I'm Lisa, and I have two kids with an ASD - both have
Asberger's, I also have another 3 kids, so we are a very busy house! I
have just (finally) secured Direct Payments, totalling 25 hours per
week and am in the process of recruiting 2 people. I'm happy to
discuss anything at all - from the price of rice to CAF (grrrr),
whatever..

I'm a single parent, and not able to work because of my own ill
health. I've found Anna, Lin and everyone else at the MAIN project an
absolute godsend - truly.

I'd love to be in touch with other parents, maybe we could organise
some trips out with other families ? Just a thought.

Hope to meet more of you soon - Take Care

Lisa
