With the demise of Airfix pretty much any model kit adorned with the eponymous logo will receive the attention of serious kit collectors. I suspect this collectors tin will receive more attention than most in the years ahead: being sold at just the time of Humbrol's closure it will be always be associated with the last days of the company. How ironic that the subject matter is perhaps one of the most capable aircraft ever produced by a British company (when measured against contemporary aircraft) symbolising the strength and defiance of a nation in its hour of greatest vulnerability. How ironic also that the Spitfire was also the first aircraft Airfix sold as a model kit.
I will not profess to be an expert on valuable collectors items (I am more interested in building them to be honest) but I figure this collectors tin will be worth holding on to for a few decades and so I will definitely be giving one to my 2 year old godson to put down as a speculative investment.
We have currently got 23 left in stock (out of a maximum of 2000 commissioned by Airfix).
