I received an email from a reader of this Blog with some great pictures of his dioramas attached.
Mike explained that after many years of modelling, a shortage of space led him along the path to dioramas. As the images on this post illustrate Mike has clearly made the change with skill. In my opinion the trick of diorama design is to try and trigger off the imagination of the audience or viewer by creating a sense of action and implication. This is not an easy task when the subject matter is stationary and in small scale. I have certainly enjoyed letting my mind wander around the images an I hope you do too.
Mike also pointed out that over the years there has been a lot of progress in the quality of model kits particularly from Dragon and Vallejo in the paint area. This is my view too and I am definitely a proponent of the view that modelling has entered an era where (ironically) computers are helping the hobby progress, with much higher levels of accuracy in scale and information sharing. (Note for self: must look into stocking Dragon and Vallejo!)
[If other reader of this blog would like to use it to display their work please feel free to email your pics (tom[atsign]themodelcatalogue.com). If you fancy trying your hand at modelling journalism, you can always draft a short article to go with the pictures.]
