[The Model Catalogue Blog] Lead Shot! The fantastic 2 in 1 solution.   Message List

It has been a while since my last post and I have got a special new product to share with you: Lead Shot. Not for recharging shot-gun cartridges or for use in fishing I'm afraid. No these little lead balls are the perfect solution for two very common modelling problems: tail-sitting model aircraft and tins of clogged paint.
To solve the former problem use an adhesive such as putty, epoxy resin or even silicone sealant to hold the lead shot in place at the front part of the aircraft. Because they are so small they can be glued into the smallest of nooks and crannies to reduce the impact and keep the mess associated with other methods such as blobs of putty to a minimum.
Now this second application I am really excited about. Although ball bearings as agitators in pots of paint are not new by any stretch, sourcing these in relatively small quantities and at a reasonable price is not easy. Well these lead balls work fantastically well. I have just popped 5-10 of them into a severely clogged tin of Humbrol 62, put the lid back on, gave it about 30 seconds of shaking, and what do you know ... a perfectly blended tin of modelling paint. The strapline of a well-known brand of household and garden paints and wood preservatives comes to mind.
I have packed them in batches of approximately 180 grams in the ever popular plastic paint pots (so you get one of those too when the balls are used up).
Click here to find it in the catalogue...
