Re: [The Obsessively Clean Den] Re: new here

Hi amy angel. my name is chris. i am 20 years old from chicago-usa. i have
had ocd for 2 years (actually, it might be a lot longer, but i have only noticed
it since 2001). i have gone through some horrible patches in the last two years
with ocd as at times i have been confined to my home, thus isolated myself, and
cried myself to sleep more then i care to admit. i was ashamed of myself, and
felt that the world around me was closing in on me and there was nothing i could
do to stop it. ocd can be horrifying, depressing, and can leave you wanting to
just call it quits in this world. HOWEVER, the bottom line is that you WILL
beat this sweetheart. there is light at the end of the tunnel, you do not have
to be ashamed, and it will get better. i am very sorry that you have to wait
all of this time for treatment. my adivce would be try and tell somebody
(friend or family) or anything so that you can speed up the process of getting
you help. before i end this email, i want to tell you a few things that should
help you. first of all, you are NOT crazy, you are NOT a bad person, and you
WILL get better. whatever your obsessions/compulsiuons are, i know it is
EXTRMELEY difficult to speak logic to yourself when you are having a rough
patch, but you must try to remember that ocd can be explained and helped. how
do i know? because i have gone through hell myself and have realized that all
of my horrible obsessvie throughts and impulses are just thoughts and impules
for if i wanted to act on them, i would have done so al ready in the last 2
years. as far as my compulsions go that i do to releive the intense
depression/stress that comes from my obsessions, i PROMISE you that therapy will
help and you WILL learn how to beat this thing sweetheart. this will make you
stronger and will make you better. i would not wish ocd on my worst enemy, but
to be honest, i have become a better person because of it as it has humbled me
and made me more understanding and tough, and i guarantee you amy, you will make
it through this and i will help you any way i can. talk to you soon. feel
better sweetie. Chris P.S.-the clouds of darkness now surround you, but through
the ocean of time, they WILL part and the sunshine will come in. this is a
guarantee.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having such a bad time at the moment -
and also that you have no-one to talk to about it. Is there not
anyone - a family member (not necessarily your immediate family), a
friend or a tutor who you can talk to about how you're feeling?

As it's such a long time until you begin your treatmeny - it might
be worth going to see your GP and explain exactly how you feel -
he/she may be able to speed up your referral or at least offer you
some other help, maybe even some counselling where at least you can
talk about your fears etc.

I'm more than happy to talk with you - through this forum or by e-
mail - obviously I don't have all the answers but I've been
suffering from severe OCD for quite a while now and have been
through some really bad patches - so at least I can understand how
you feel. So any time you want to talk - feel free to contact me.

Take care
