Your problem is shared by many of us. It is not that friends and family
wouldn't do just about anything to make you feel better. But after awhile they
realize that there is nothing they can do to help you. There comes a point when
everything that needs to be said is said. What is the point in continuing a
chess match when a stalemate is the only possible outcome? They realize that
nothing they can say or do will ever help you. It makes them feel like a
failure. Furthermore, for lack of a better word, your symptoms have become
boring to them. Surely, you have grown weary of someone who complains all the
time about some physical ache.
I do not believe you need to completely cure yourself of OCD to overcome your
problem. You could make a serious effort in taking an interest in other
people's own problems. It is sometimes easy to forget that people that don't
have a thousand useless thoughts a day still do indeed have fears and
difficulties themselves. In fact, this focus on others is a good strategy in
helping with OCD symptoms. It allows you to sometimes escape your own intrusive
thoughts.
All of this is easier said than done of course, but in the interest of keeping
friends one must remember that friendship requires love and support on both
sides.
