Hello Ruthie,

I hope you're ok. I got so frustrated with my hair cutting that i shaved it
all off. it's grown back now but often think about going it again. I was a
student when i shaved it off the first time and that was okay everyone assumed i
was making some sort of fashion statement, but i have a job now and it would be
difficult to get away with. sometimes i think about telling people at work
because they must get frustrated with me being late to work all the time. Does
your Pyschiatrist know that you are scared to take paxil? they won't make you
take it but will give you their best proffesional advice about it? I have only
taken fluoxetine but that doesn't seem to work for me and i'm still on the
waiting list to see a therapist.

   Hugs
   Nicky x

Do you know what makes people vulnerable to developing OCD?

There are no definitive answers to this very important question as
yet. In an effort to develop our understanding of this issue, I am
conducting research into some of the possible psychological factors
that may contribute to vulnerability to OCD.

Specifically, I want to examine the ways in which people experience
their close relationships, how people view themselves, and whether
there are certain types of beliefs that distinguish people who
experience OCD from people who don't.

This research is part of my doctoral training as a clinical
psychologist (University of Hertfordshire) and involves filling out
an anonymous questionnaire.

If you would like further information, and are experiencing obsessive-
compulsive symptoms or diagnosed with OCD, and living in the UK,
please contact me (please indicate where you saw the research
advertised):

A woman in the US wrote a book about how caffeine causes mental
illnes. http://www.welcometothedancecaffeineallergy.com. Her article
on OCD is published too. Caffeine causes biochemical imbalances,
upsets the brain and causes people to obsess about things.

least he will understand you and the stress it cause's you ,when you
have difficult days like today,...Jo when i feel i need to keep washing
my hands over and over because of the germy feeling ,i use Hand
sanitizer with aloe in it because it doesn't dry them out too much ith
the aloe in it,than i use hand / lotion cream, ......I can't touch
doorknobs and now that winter is here i can wear my gloves ,but than i
still feel like germs are on my gloves so i still use a tissue ,i know
it's so stressful .....i was watching good morning america and they were
telling where the most germs were etc ,and they said when you are out in

Hi,

I'm having a bad day OCD wise because I had to go the doctors
because my hands are so dry and cracked. I find going to the doctors
very stressful and I've been very emotional today. I was supposed
to go to work after the doctors, but I didn't feel up to it. So I
phoned and left a message for my manager that I didn't feel up to it
and would like to talk to him about why and could he ring me back.
I've reached the stage where I think it would just be easier to tell
him that I have OCD so he knows whats going on and can begin to
understand the stress I feel. He's a very nice person and I've
already told him about my IBS which he was understanding about.
Trouble is I can't help but think that he wouldn't have given me the
job if he'd known I had a mental health problem. Oh well, he hasn't
rung back yet so I still have time to chicken out and make something
else up I suppose.

Anyway, my good news is that I got my referral through and have an
assessment with the local mental health service next month :-)

Hugs to everyone
Jo

That sounds about right, I know what you mean about it being scary, you
taken huge steps though hon, be very proud of yourself :0)
With the utmost respect for your Mum, you have to be pretty "out of it" for
electric shock treatment to be given, I know this because My Dad also had
Depression and after he tried to commit suicide he was hospitalised and
given this too. You are not in that category!! OCD is a different thing ok,
so don't worry about that sweetie :0)
