getting the right sound   Message List

Hi All,
I just bought a Xaphoon (pocket sax), just as an interim measure
while saving up for an Alto sax. I'm a complete beginner and I have
to say I am really struggling getting a real sound out of the
thing. Before I get flamed for it not being a real sax, the
mouthpiece and technique is (apparently) identical. I've got a Rico
strength 1 reed in there. Moisten it before playing but all it get
is a high pitched squeel (like when you blow at glass between your
hands!). A couple of times I have got it right (and it sounds
lovely when you do), but it must have been a fluke and I havent been
able to reproduce it since. I curl my bottom lip over my bottom
teeth, put my upper teeth on top of the mouth piece, seal my lips
and still the same squeek. I've tried putting it more in my mouth
and more out my mouth, this just changes the pitch of the squeek!!.

Any hints at what I am doing wrong? or more importantly what i need
to do to correct this.... If I cant get this right there seems
little point moving onto a sax :o(

thanks very
jaxx
