Re: [The Saxophone Club] Alto sax

Hi Charlie,
Not sure about the best alto, like you I started late and unable to read music, I
wanted to play Tenor but I took advice and got my first alto on e-bay and on
reflection I was really very lucky. I ended up with an Arbiter pro sound for
which I think I paid £200, it,s a good solid horn,with a good tone and it has
given me no problems. Two years down the road I still want to play the tenor and
I am saving hard to be able to do that, but I don't think I could let my alto
go. I think it is a very personal matter which is the best horn. I have tried
several different altos and although more expensive than mine I managed to find
fault with all of them, to light, keys closer to gether, did not sound as good
ect. Saying that I have changed my mouth piece several times and have found one
that I really like .I have also tried several ligatures till I was happy and
also the reeds. So in that sense you do personalise your sax till it suits you.
Any one else feel the same way??
Irene

Alto, more of them, cheaper, smaller, easier to handle, doesn't take as much lung power. Same fingerings as the tenor...so all skills on the alto easily...
