That's cool. :)
Is it adjustable or sized/fixed? (out of curiosity)
I wouldn't worry about starting out. As long as the ring itself is
not too feminine looking, and your overall outfit/look work with it,
just put it on and go. :)
It's a bit cold out now to wear sandals (unfortunately), so maybe
just wear it around the house for a bit to get used to the sensation.
When I first tried this, I was reading posts and polls online that
seemed to indicate that women thought it was cool, even a bit sexy,
for guys to wear a toe ring. So I searched for something that was as
masculine as possible (settled on a wide band with a celtic weave on
it), and then wore it at home for a few hours after work and left it
on when I went to bed. I was used to the sensation pretty quickly.
Then I wore it on a shopping outting with a female friend (that I was
sort of seeing for short time previously). This was a few years ago,
maybe 3? I can't recall, they run together so quickly anymore. But
she had never seen me wear flip flops, or a ring, OR have my nails
buffed. She had only seen me in regular running/hiking/cross-training-
type sandals before.
I never said anything to her about it and then she noticed it and
just about fell over. She couldn't stop laughing either. lol But it
wasn't because it looked bad, it was because it was so unexpected (to
her) for me to do something like that that she couldn't help herself.
Eventually she calmed down and integrated the idea. lol But she
thought it was cool from the outset. She was never crazy about my
hyper-buffed nails, but she DOES dig the ring (and often looks at it
while we're out I've noticed), and has even suggested I get an anklet.
Also, I've seen lots of women look. 95% (or more) of the time it will
be 1 of three things - Either they will like it and smile, or be
confused at the sight of a man wearing something like that (could be
the nails too, or the combo, in my case) and *show* it without
meaning to, or they will be so busy looking you can't read their
reaction. lol Very rarely will you get a look that shows they don't
like it.
So, I guess that's a long winded way of saying, don't sweat it. Wear
it a bit at home just to get accustomed to the feel, then go out with
it like it's a watch or anything else you'd normally wear and forget
about.
As long as you don't try to look like a woman or over-feminize, I can
almost guarantee you will get lots of attention, and much of that
positive.
Another option is, if you're over at women's houses (or friend's
houses who have girlfriends, wives, sisters, etc, over), kick off
your shoes *casually*. Friends shouldn't give you a hard time and
should be honest. Whatever you do don't make a big deal about it -
unless you want to ask a girl her opinion on it, but even then be
casual about it. They will end up noticing it and will almost
certainly react to it. ;)
*however* - though I probably don't need to say this, I will just in
case - make absolutely certain that your feet are clean, in
presentable condition (no white dried scaly skin, un-trimmed nails,
excess hair, etc, etc) AND that your shoes are clean and do not
stink. Try wearing shoes without socks for a few hours (or a day)
then take them off at home and see what the results are. If they are
unpleasant, skip the friends house idea, and skip going sockless in
anything but actual sandals.
