Mr. Robinson, first let me say that I do enjoy both your comedy
and your documentary works. I was recently given a copy of your
documentary about The DaVinci Code and found it very informative. As
I have not read the book, nor seen the movie. It did seem to draw
heavily on the theories put out by the authors of 'The Holy Blood
and the Holy Grail' which I read in the mid 80s. It is an
interesting theory.
In your documentary on the grail legend you did comment on the Last
Supper painting and how the Disciple sitting next to Christ seems
too female to be John. I would have to agree. Why anyone would
think that this figure was John I would not know, One only has to look
at her clothing to identify her as female compared to the other dinner
guests, also, in the gospel of Thomas (I think, as I am to lazy to
google atm.) it states that Magdalene was at the last supper, and she
was asked by Peter to ask Jesus who was the disciple who would
betray him as she leaned back upon him. (In the painting, Mr DaVinci
has painted them sitting on chairs around a table, which, although being
correct for Mr. DaVinci's time, was not for Christ.) In Christ's time
they would all be lounging on benches.
You may be interested in this site, which I have to say puts forward
a very compelling argument regarding Mary Magdalene's part in
the life of Christ.
