I¡¦ve been a member of the site for some time now and have done a lot of reading
and not a lot of posting.... But I have a question ļ

I understand with a vertical antenna the bigger and the higher the coil the
better?
My idea is to use a length of soil pipe or similar as the former of the coil.
Now I know that¡¦s going to catch the wind so I¡¦ll probably use drain pipe as
the vertical section to help support the weight, plus this way I should be able
to attach a vertical whip section to top it off.

Now for the Question...
What is the ultimate wire length to construct a top band vertical antenna?
I currently have 146¡¨ of wire and a similar counter poise running down the back
of the gardens in my street ļ

Should I aim to use a similar length of wire or should it be shorter ???
