HI Brian,
I see no reason why this type of coil will not work on the High Sierra
( I presume ) 1800 pro antenna , or indeed any other type of screwdriver
antenna.

I would say it is just a case of homebrewing a coil , check it out on the
screwdriver antenna , perhaps with an analyser , then suck it & see.

Simon really has had good results on 160m with his homebrew coil & the
Sidekick. I will just say that with the add on coil in place , while it works
excellent on 160m , it would be necessary to remove the coil for the antenna to
work & tune easily on the other bands 80m to 6m.

I look at this the same way that some people remove the 3 foot whip that
is standard with the sidekick & then use a whip that is 5 or 6 feet tall. This
is usually at the expense of losing 6m . No problem if you wish to work 6m ,
then you just revert to the standard 3 foot whip.

I should also point out that Simon has been using this antenna on
his car while stationary . On the move, with a standard whip, is no problem for
80m - 10m operation. However, once the extra coil is in place, along with a 6
foot whip antenna , the total length of the antenna for 160m use becomes in
excess of 10 feet tall. If you add on, the fact that Simon has mounted his
antenna on roof bars on his vehicle, this would make the antenna over 16 feet
from ground to tip. Obviously, there could be issues with low bridges & perhaps
other safety issues if you tried driving with the antenna like this.

I still work 160m most evenings, with our local group on 1.972mhz from 6.30pm
local time for an hour or more. I also make an excursion onto 1.933mhz from time
to time after 10pm local.

It won't be too much longer before I will once again be venturing onto the " DX
WINDOW " so now is a good time for homebrewing or tweaking your 160m antenna.
