These paintings have been inspired by, and are interpretations of,
St Lawrences’ orchard in Eastwoodbury Lane.

Originally planted during the 1920’s, and neglected for many years,
this orchard is currently being restored and revitalised by Growing
Together, a local project promoting horticulture and health.

St Lawrences’ orchard is a reminder of more resilient times for the
Southend area, a tiny fragment left over from a time when much of
the land surrounding the town was covered by acres and acres of
orchards and small holdings, before we became totally reliant upon
supermarkets, imported food and fossil fuels to feed ourselves.

The partnership of Scarlett Fireplaces, Spiralseed and Transition
Town Westcliff hope that you will be inspired to once again
rediscover this sense of self-reliance and community sustainability.
