Re: [Tropical Aquaria] whitespot outbreak!!

Hi Zoe,
that's really bad news. Right first off don't be too surprised that the Clowns
died, they are very sensitive to white-spot, but sadly quite intolerent to the
treatment, you should only use half the recommended dose when treating them,
this goes for most loaches as they are 'scaleless' . The Angels are pretty tough
and should get through it ok, the plec being an 'armoured' catfish should
withstand the disease, but as with all fish stress could prove fatal, Whilst
it's essential to make sure your filtration is working well, especially when
using meds, remember that any charcol in the filter will remove the chemicals so
if you have some in the filter it's vital to remove it whilst treating the tank
otherwise the meds will not remain in the tank long enough to be effective.
replace it after treatment is completed. Also make sure you do a water change
once a week (10-20%) during the period of treatment. Also be careful not to
over-feed during this time, as this puts extra load
on the filter. Raising the tank temperature to about 30-32 degrees is also
helpful as the white spot cysts do not thrive at such temperatures, the fish
will be perfectly ok.
Hope this helps and the very best of luck :-)

Hi,i havent posted here for ages, but i have a big problem.
Early on in the week, my clown loaches were showing signs of
whitespot, ive treated the tank for this with the proper meds. Now, all
my clowns have died............my black ghost knife has died and now
my small angel has died too.My other 2 angels are seemingly fine,
tetras are fine, my bulldog plec tho, is covered in it.
Apart from the obvious distress its causing me, i dont know if its
over for the fish, or if it keeps spreading.Ive never had this problem
before.Any advice on how to save the remaining fish would be
appreciated.
A very sad me.
PS.....hope steve shepherd is reading this, your advice has proved
invaluable in all my cases before.
