Hiya, algae is usually encouraged by two things, light and an abundance of
phosphates, nitarates etc created by fish waste and rotting food stuff. After
cleaning the tank out try reducing the length of time the lights are on, say
down to 6 hours a day, also make sure that as little natural sunlight falls on
the tankas possible. Make sure that your filtration is effective and that little
food stuff remains in the tank. Thread algae can be very difficult to remove as
few fish will eat it, unlike normal green algae, so called algae eaters actually
eat very little algae! Bristle-nose catfish and 'plecs' will eat the fine green
algae that grows in a tank but the only fish I know of that will eat al least
some thread algae is the Pearl Gourami (Golds and three-spots may also). hope
this is of some help.
Regards,
Steve
