Failing Filter / OTS?   Message List

Hi all,
Been ages since I been in, but need some info,
Over last weekend I had a major problem with one of my tanks, it
has been up & running for over 3 years, with no major issues ,
until last saturday,
Had a power loss a couple weeks back during the night and have
no idea how long power was out, I know after a certain time without
oxygenated water flowing through the filter media that bacteria
colony will start to die off.
When I checked water after the power out everything was fine,
Did a water test Saturday and found that the level of ammonia was
off the scale , so checked Nitrites & Nitrates as well
Nitrites were negligible and Nitrates were a bit high, Carried
out huge water change, and got levels back to acceptable limits.

Now i have noticed the filter doesnt seem to be working like it
used to, so is it on its way out ?? or is OTS rearing its ugly
head?
I want to keep with an internal filter (present one Interpet IPF
Duo2)and someone mentioned to me about a HOB filter are they
available over here in UK i know they seem to be a favourite in
the USA

Thanks in advance for any help
Regards
Andy
