Re: [Tropical Aquaria] Convict Cichlid

Howdy!!!

You are in luck...I too have raised a breeding pair of convict Cichlids in the
past and let me tell you, they are ornery! (is that how it's spelled??) Anyway,
one thing is for certain, being they are your typical central american species,
you can be certain that when you have more than one, at least one of them is
going to take over the whole tank, no matter what the size is regardless what
kind of fish you got in there with it. I've seen these suckers make it a living
hell for other so called "agressive" species of cichlids such as red devils,
green terrors, etc...One method I have used in the past was the divider method
where I stuck a plastic partition in the middle of the tank keeping them
seperate. You can also try adding more convicts in there if your tank is big
enough in hopes of diffusing agression. Another method I have used in the past
was changing around the interior and decorations of the tank thus breaking up
any former territorial boundaries making the convicts have to
start from scratch...If worse come to worst, then you may have to get rid of
the offending culprit altogether. I hope any info i have provided has helped:)
