Hi steve, Im no expert, although there are people in this group who are very
knowledgeable.I set up my first aquarium in August , so i can sympathise with
you. When i added the water to my tank it was cloudy, then it seemed to clear and
then all of a sudden it went cloudy again,it felt like i was never going to get
past this stage, a couple of days later and after several e.mails and
reasurances, it cleared of its own accord, suddenly. As for the white strands of
stringy things lol, i have absolutely no idea, im sure it will be nothing
serious and someone will know what it is, dont worry about it, i know its hard
to relax when all you want is clear water then the fish additions, but please,
do relax, just hang on a couple of days and with the help of mother nature
things will start to look better.Good luck with your new adventure, enjoy it!
Love Meg

Hi All,
Just joined so hello to everyone!
Ive got a problem with my new tank and hope someone can help. Its a
100ltr all in sort of thing (heater, pump etc supplied from pet shop)
No real plants (plastic only) gravel at bottom.
Ive only had it a week, so ive not added any fish yet, just letting
it settle in etc as instructed by guide book. I have added some
chemicals that are suppossed to help the water adjust for the fish
(sorry, dont know what they were - made by tetra i think)
Anyway - first problem is water is very, very cloudy. I was not so
worried about this at first as guide book said it would go cloudy,
but how long will it take to clear? (someone told me its got
something to do with the growth of bacteria)
More of a concern is my second problem - ive noticed the appearance
of fine white strands of what look like spiders webbs on the plants
and other ornaments - kinda looks like a hammer house of horror movie
set!
Maybe im worrying too early, but things do not seem to be going well.
You may notice - I have not kept fish before and dont know a lot
about the subject - i am keen to learn and dont want my fish to
suffer due to my ignorance!
Thanks and all the best steve saunders
