Hi, No they won't breed. Cichlasoma synspilum is a Central American Cichlid that
will grow to about 12" (excluding the tail) A very beautiful species but can be
highly aggressive (for example my one beat the crap out of a 20" Tiger
Shovelnose catfish and has had to be isolated in his own tank) as a species they
are inveterate diggers and will quickly re-arrange the substrate and when big
enough shift rocks, wood, heaters etc. And they grow very quickly, mine went
from 2" at Xmas last year to about 10" by July. If a pair can be obtained they
breed readily, but unless you have a large fish-house this is not a good idea.
The Green Terror will also become more aggressive and territorial as it grows,
though closely related to the Blue Acara (a relatively peaceful Cichlid) it is
far more aggressive, the fact that at the moment they appear to be living in
harmony should not be taken as a sign that this will always be the case.
I will often keep a number of potentially large cichlids together until
trouble starts, then they are spilt up and accommodated as required. In order to
keep such large fish a really huge aquarium is needed, and I'm talking of at
least 8-9 foot in length, even then should a breeding pair emerge............ I
suppose what I am saying is that the keeping of the larger cichlid species is an
undertaking that should never be done lightly. A lot of more detailed
information is available on-line, just do a search and you will find out all the
info you can wish for.

Last week I got the following and they have started to dig the hell out of the
tank as if they are trying to breed. I am woundering if anyone knows if these
two are capable of breeding?
The Fish are
Sichlasoma Synspilus
and a Green Terror.
If anyone also knows a little more about the sichlasoma I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.
